films of Post Apocalyptia

Post » Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:11 am

I thought about creating a list here in this thread of all the films that deal with a Post Apocalytic world.

I'll try to come up with as many titles as I can but please add any that you may think are pertinent/relevent to the topic.

Ok, first off is the MadMax/RoadWarrior trilogy - an absolute must see is MadMaxII just to get a real insight into what wandering the wastelands could be like.

A Boy and his Dog - an interesting take on a wastelander suvivor who comes into contact with a bunch of people living in an underground bunker system

The Omega Man/I am Legend - The Charlton Heston version was the best IMO

Tank Girl - a silly film but worth a look

Jericho the TV series

Cherry 2000 - B grade again but still worth a viewing

The Stand tv mini series

Damnation Alley

On the Beach

DeathRace 2000 [1975 version]

Planet of the Apes

Threads

The Aftermath

and to wind up, A Blast from the Past - a cute film that really has the retro feel of the late 1950's/early 60's to it. Although a nuclear war didn't happen it's still amusing to watch.

The Postman.

Not a great movie, but the theme's right.

Threads

I love Threads. Probably the only Post-Apoc film that doesn't leave you with that 20 seconds of "Hey, that might be kinda cool to be like Max out there...right?" feeling.

To add to the list a few:

* Escape From New York (of course)

* S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (an all-time favorite sci-fi/post-apoc film by one of my favorite directors)

* Blood of Heroes (this one really satisfies that same Mad Max craving)

* Doomsday (really blatant rip-off film, but still guilty pleasure fun)

* Hell Comes to Frogtown (Rowdy Roddy Piper ftw!!!)

Oh, yeah. I love Blood of Heroes. (Now that's a movie that's crying for a videogame translation if I ever saw one...) And you can't go wrong with Frogtown, of cours.e

The Day After - A 1980's tv movie about real results of a nuclear holocaust in the US... Very grim.
The Roadwarrior - Hello?

Waterworld? Its direct opposite of the Fallout world, but still retains the feel.

I also got the feel from Children of Men, despite it not being especially postapocalyptic.

* Doomsday (really blatant rip-off film, but still guilty pleasure fun)

I thought that film was absolutely brilliant until it hit that ridiculous car chase :(

Yeah, haha, the car chase was horrible. I won't lie to you...Rhona Mitra was what kept me going and able to forgive all the Mad Max aping throughout the film. :hubbahubba:

Here's a bunch of background films, some form the '50s, about atomic war and civil defense.
