Getting a house in Skyrim is frustrating

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:01 am

Marry someone who already has a house.

This is the only option sad thing about that is there is little choice in marriage in the game.

Both housing and Marriage is quite limited I want a mill as a house for RP purposes but only person that will make such possible is a red guard near markath(? or solitude) in a snowy region.

Although Housing furniture has gave me almost every thing I wanted from pedestals to book shelves.

Mage collage is the easiest to obtain bed + chest, you really just need to complete the join quest which takes all of 1 minute. If you are REALLY anol about not doing a single quest, you are better off using player.modav carryweight 9999

You can just rent a room at an inn or slip into many of the owned cabins out in the wilderness and make it unowned :chaos:

It is off topic and has allready been said but... a LOT of people fail at reading. You guys should be ashamed of yourselfs.

As for the OP, i agree, though it doesn't bother me that much. Gotta have to wait for mods to fix it.

Did you read my post? I said gold IS NOT the problem. At a certain point I had 50K+ and I did not even touch any quest.

The point is NO house, no shack, not even a damn permanent room at a inn is available without getting involved in (sometimes lengthy and annoying) quests

Really? It takes me like 5 minutes to rush through the Bleak Dungeon place to get the Dragonstone, give to Farengar and get permission to get the house.

If you can't farm together 5000 you don't deserve a house to begin with.

For players that do not visit RP games such as the TES series it is pretty difficult to accumulate enough gold to buy the Whiterun house. It took me until lv 21 to get that specific home as my own. I think the hardest part of obtaining the gold would be the NPCs that you sell your loot to. Who is the correct merchant to sell jewelry/enchanted armors/weapons/expensive potions to? Obtaining items? Easy. Finding the right merchants early on in the game, however, is not so easy.

P.S: I still don't know the right NPCs to sell to D:

Deal with it.

Use the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alchemist%27s_Shack?

Or perhaps http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Meeko%27s_Shack, but I cannot remember if that has any containers.

There are many shacks all around Skyrim...
Finally, after reading all this crap I found a decent answer. My new character I'm planning will greatly enjoy this!

Yes, but since the respawn time seems to be in game 30 days, there's no way to know if a container is secure until after a long time.

Otheral nailed my point. At least one house anywhere should be free to purchase without having to do any quest.
DId you read the wiki? It says there are non respawning containers there so both locations are legit shacks the player can live at.

I think a good middle ground would have been to put one Waterfront-shack-type house in the game that does not need to be earned and that does not cost very much money. The better houses could cost several thousand gold and require quests.

I just don't want to do mundane tasks. After all, why does a house like Breezehome or Honeyside have to be earned? It's not like Proudspire where it's a manor. It's just a standard house in the city's architectural style.

In any city it's clear you have to be someone to be able to purchase a house. A nobody isn't allowed to live anywhere. If you choose not to gain 'rep', you choose not to be able to get a house somewhere (or more importantly, a chest).
