Crysis 2 v1.9 DX11 & High Res pack Crash

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:40 pm

So recently got around to building a new system for gaming:

i7-2600K
Asus P8z68v-Pro
8GB 1866 DDR 3 Corsair
875Watt Toughpower XT PSU
Zotac GTx 580(factory Clocks)
Intel SSD 160
Seagate 2 TB drive
Sony Bluray writer

Put it all together and everything is running great. Except Crysis 2. Fails miserably and consistently. When it does run usually for 2 - 15 mintues it runs great with everything turned on. But it will fail with the system restoring the video driver and and my game pad still vibrating and sound still being heard. I have reloaded the video drivers which I am running the lastest version from nvidia. Here is the event information from windows.

Faulting application name: Crysis2.exe, version: 1.9.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Faulting module name: nvwgf2um.dll, version: 8.17.12.8026, time stamp: 0x4e390929
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00110b07
Faulting process id: 0x18d4
Faulting application start time: 0x01cc58c24172bc94
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\bin32\Crysis2.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\nvwgf2um.dll
Report Id: bb11d9b3-c4b6-11e0-8bf5-14dae90f7cde

I tested out 3dmark 11(looped it for awhile) and monitored GPU-z for heat and power usage on the video card and then compared it to Crysis 2 which happened to crash immediately pretty much and noticed nothing abnormal. Power usage was inline with what 3dmark was using and the temperature hadn't even risen yet. So either there is a bug in the game or in the drivers. I have already submitted the same info to Nvidia requesting help. Whats everyone elses take? I have heard that you can drop the game back to DX9 or 10 and it will work fine... but whats the point then?

boost your your GPU voltage by 0.05 and that may help, many folks have done this including me.

I read that as well. Here's the problem though, its not with the GPU and its voltages, I ran 3dmark 11 in a loop for 2 hours with no problems. Yet I cant even run Crysis 2 for 2 minutes before it crashes the video driver. I agree that if you guys are not running into problems upping the voltage thats one fix but I have a pretty good feeling its either driver or game related. Not voltage related. Now I just got done playing with DX11 turned off for the past hour and a half with no issues what so ever. Would be nice if either nvidia or crytek would acknowledge there is a problem...

I have a strong feeling its the game but I would just like someone to acknowledge the issue and that its being worked on.

Hi, Guys!
I have the same problem with my config. But i think, this problem is not only in game, but in drivers too - because i deinstalled newest driver for nvidia, and installed 270.61 whql driver - and video crashes almost disappeared! only in 2 or 3 levels - (City-Hall and Conwoy - definetly) i had such problem - and i could finish the game :) To go through the game in this levels, i`ve turned dx11 off, and then - turned it on.
But i don`t think that is the good answer for problem - CRYTEK and nVidia have to do something with this problem.
My config is:
Intel i7 920 - 2.6Ghz
3Gb RAM DDR3 Kingston at 1600 Mhz
Gigabyte GA-X58-EXTREME motherboard
Gigabyte GTX580 -( factory Overclocked to 795 Mhz chip)
2xSSD OCZ Agility2 in RAID0
850 Wt Zalman 850-HP
running Win7 64bit
