580 GTX for crysis 2, is it worth it?

Here's two 580s after a couple games of TIA on Ultra, in case anyone's interested >>

I'd be more interested in SP fps performance through heavily tessellated areas (like the start of corporate collapse). Plus multiplayer isn't a lot different than dx9 as there's no tessellation or POM.

Don't forget the AMD 7000 series, theoretically this year.

I have two GTX580 in SLI. I sure dont have to worry about getting another video card anytime soon

VSync on - 60 FPS cap
Vsync off - 60 - 120 FPS

Its worth every dime

lol $1200 to run Crysis 2 on max? I thought spending $300 on my two 460's was a big investment....... and thats all i'll need, for another 2 years.......maybe until Crysis 3. Doubt BF3 will be as demanding as Crysis 2 on max settings and high res Textures. It seems uber linear and will inevitably become consolized just like C2 began......

CoolGuy i was thinking same thing, i been playin' the later levels in SP against the Pingers on Ultra like melted butter and thinking no way is BF3 gonna look this good, the night scenes in C2 SP & MP (especially the reflections) are outstanding.

Just decided to go with the 580 gtx, only the 1.5GB version as there was a deal on at overclockers.

Should I expect smooth enough frame rates with this?

You got the 2600k too, so yeah!
If you get any problems after installing it, boost your GPU volts by 0.05, mine are boosted by 0.06, (the directCU2 is factory boosted by 0.025).

I won't be pushing it hard OC wise due to my PSU anyway, as long as it runs good enough at stock or close to it.

There is nothing wrong with buying $1200 worth of video cards. One thing I dont have to worry about is uprading again within the next 2 years. Its the peace of mind that helps especially when you get into water cooling then have to lose water blocks as soon as another card hits the market.

Being that 3D is the **** now I could not think of any other card to trust to deliver what was expected in C2. I am even ready for C3 when that comes around. IF you think $1200 if off the wall then you wouldnt want to know what I paid for my monitor

Its have a peace of mind thats all.

Well, value for money, it's not very good because few games actually use such powerful cards anyway. If the next generation of GPUs offer twice the performance then you've pretty much wasted your money.

Dual or triple monitor set-up plus 3D support, now that's where is matters more.

No, Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, & Batman Arkham City is what matters more with the option to go 3D if the notion takes, for some of us it's a hobby (rig building), just look at Dr.Milzie's water cooled 570 SLI setup, or prettypinkpony's, the list goes on.
