What the hell happened to this? I've never seen it happen. So much for the AI...

actually ive done it many times and i play on the ps3 version. In Riften i dropped 2 gold ingots, a silver ingot 2 silver candelsticks and a flawless ruby. A courier picked up the silver ingot and gave it back saying "someone was gonna grab it so i grabbed it for you". Then 5 people all went for my treasure, i heard one say "im taking that" then another guy pulled out a weapon and said, "not before i do". Then that nord chick whos supposed to be the protector of riften with her 2 bodyguards cut down 2 civilians and took the [censored] off their bodies. So it does happen, but i tried again later and it didnt work.

Yeah, shes absolutely cold blooded. Had her as my follower and she mercilessly killed an apprentice who accidentally hit her with a spell while practicing in the Hall of Elements.

I dropped a pair of Steel Boots in the middle of Whiterun, they've been there for me now between level 20-44 LOL. They just lay there and no one does anything about it.

i dropped a hatchet on the ground in Whiterun and a guard came up to me and [censored]ed at me for leaving weapons lying around. then i told him to go away and he fined me ;_;

i've also had a little girl chase after me with a book i dropped shouting HEY YOU DROPPED THIS

i've never tried it with anything else but yes they do respond to the things you drop so maybe you should try more often before complaining that it's not in the game

I dropped 10 arrows in the middle of nowhere and a Hunter came up and gave me one back and stole the rest, I didn't want them but I was like "What the hell?"

Sounds like it depends on what you drop. I've never had anyone return anything I dropped, but I have dumped many gourds and cheese wheels in the stream/drain directly next to the market in Whiterun. I've also dumped loads of kettles, pots and baskets in the one next to it. I did dump a bowl there once and when I came back it was gone but all the iron pots were still there.

I've seen reactions - I accidentally dropped a dagger i was trying to equip (wrong button) and before I could even look down to pick it back up, the guard was in my face about to arrest me for dropping weapons. Oops...

Um, OP. This happens ALL the time. People return/fight over my stuff almost everytime I drop something.

Do your homework before making threads.

Oh, and I've also had multiple thieves come to me in the wilderness and give me stolen items, then a hunter comes to me asking if I've seen him. Too cool.

Haven't seen anyone fight over it yet, but I think I'm going to try it later. I got fined for dropping stuff in Dragonsreach though. :(

Actually that's pretty awesome. I can't think of any rp uses for such instances off the top of my head, but i'm sure i will. Delightfully useless.

I remember dropping the Saphire Claw in my Dorm Room in Winterhold to decorate it and Tolfdere picked it up and gave it back, had to make sure no one was around when decorating that room.

I've dropped many items and have had them returned to me, much to my dismay though because it was usually because I was overencumbered

I've dropped a [censored] load of flawless gems in the middle of Riften and 3 people fought over them.

I dropped an iron sword in one of those guard towers with all those un named guards. They started killing each other to claim it.

Funny, but not really logical.
