LVL 43 pure mage and no problems. Wouldn't call magic "broken" it has its problems but its very playable.

I don't know why people are complaining about magic. Perked up my Destruction and I take out a giant in 4 hits from chain lighting, with half of my magicka to spare; my magicka is fully regenerated within 5 seconds due to careful perk planning and equipment (Amulet of Akatosh + Resoration perk that gives up to 50% faster magicka regen). I wear full heavy armor, so I'm not even relying on mage robes to make me more powerful. It all depends how you play the game. If you plan well, you can become a powerful mage. That is why it is harder to be a magic user than a warrior
