ADVICE for a newbie ?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 12:50 am

Never played Oblivion, and never been much for magic or fantasy worlds but everyones raving about this game so i thought i should try it, Plus i like Fallout so i kind of know what im getting into. However, i have no idea where to even begin regarding my character ? basically what i want is for my character to be the ultimate badass, i don't want magic or wont be using it much anyway. Massive sword, shield, bow and arrow and i want to cut down any enemy that comes near me. Basically he needs to be tough, strong and good with a weapon.

What kind of character / perks would give me that kind of experience so that it works well ?? and how should i go about levelling up without getting overmatched in the early stages ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Objectively form your own opinion of the game from playing. Ignore the review posts...whether they praise or bash the game. Have fun.

One-hand tree, heavy armour and archery trees and pull your upgrades equal between health and stamina.

If you really want to OP yourself, hit smithing early and make yourself crazy armour

Really the racial pick isn't that big a deal. Choose whichever race you think looks the coolest, that's by far the most important aspect of your character. After that, just grab a big 2 handed weapon and start putting on heavy armour. Grab all the heavy armour and two-handed perks as you qualify for them. Also consider doing smithing and enchanting, those will really help your character's power level scale up quickly. Better weapons means stronger fighter.

The beauty about Skyrim is that you can do ANYTHING you want. Plate wearing magic user? Done. Guy using a 2 handed sword wearing a bathrobe? Done. Go out and have fun!

Orcs do the most dmg and have the best racial power out of the bunch, for melee at least. Other than the racial power though, it doesnt actually matter what you start off as.

Early off, a destrct mage is overpowered but probably the most difficult class to play later on. Not sure if thats the route you want or not, but if you arnt into RP and just wanna explore / take [censored] out, dual wield with heavy or a light sneak archer are good choices.

Personally, I think lock picking and pickpocketing are useless skills to put points into, but some might not agree with that. You can have companions that can lock pick for you and its rare that you'll need to pick pocket anything.

Also, even though I'm not all that new, I found http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1292619-huge-list-of-tips-and-tricks/ useful.

I think you would want to be an Orc, Nord or Redguard. Heavy armor, most likely.

You'll have to choose between either a "massive" two-handed weapon, or a smaller one-handed weapon with a shield. That's up to you.

Focus on using your combat skills (one or two handed, block, archery) in order to raise those skills and not ancillary ones (like speech).

Use the Warrior stone.

Use the smithing skill and perks to increase your armor and weapon damage.

Smithing can be abused by leveling it very quickly, so decide if you want t exploit this or not. (I recommend not)

Enchanting combined with smithing can really make you overly strong, but you seem to want to avoid magic stuff, so I'd ignore enchanting.

Don't underestimate magic.even it it's just to carry around a healing spell for emergencies. Also cooking in the beginning is a life saver.svck down a few roasts and it can save your life in a long battle.Alchemy is good also. You can make your own health and stamina potions and poisons for your weapons instead of buying them.
