How can I lower my spell casting cost?

Post » Wed Oct 21, 2009 3:30 pm

I'm sure this has been answered, but I couldn't find it. I have spent days doing nothing but building my character's skill levels (and over all levels) in everything magick. I finally got all my levels to master(except restoration), and it is still costing more magicka that I've got to make spells. Master level illusion, and it is still not enough to bring the cost down to make a better paralyze spell. That's just an example. The same is true for destruction spells. How can it be done? I'm so sick of working so hard and getting no where.

What is the value of your Intelligence Attribute? Is this too, at 100? The higher your INT, the bigger magicka pool you have to play with.
When creating a spell at the altar, try using less damage over longer time, the spell cost will be reduced.
Touch spells cost less magicka to cast than target spells.
Last, if you create a lot of custom spells like I do, adding points to Luck helps out. NOTE: This adding of Luck, when your magic school levels are all at 100, only reduces the magicka cost of your CUSTOM spells only, by about every four points of luck added.

Give an example.

Do you wear anything that has a Fortify Magicka enhancement? There are Sigil Stones that give +50 and a few of those used on rings, amulets and clothing will provide a considerable base for your casting. Then the high cost spells won't be out of reach any more.

if you had a master level restoration skill you could make fortify magicka spells that when stacked can give you an insanely high magicka pool.
which can lead to insanely powerful spells :goodjob:

Are you sure? I always thought this would be true UNTIL your school magic skill reached 100, then it would not matter.

My mage:

All skills at 100
No armor.
Level 49, will be the first character to make it to level 50.
Intelligence is 100

All spells that you can obtain in the game stop being reduced in terms of magicka when your skills reach level 100. Agreed?
However, I am finding, that for about every four points of luck that I add, my CUSTOM spells continue to decrease in magicka cost, even when my skills are at 100. So I had this huge spell, which created a frost cloud, paralyzed everyone in that cloud of 40 feet, and fortified my speed, so I could get outta there. I could only cast it once. Now, with luck at 68, (and I have been maxed in all my magic skills for about 20 levels) I can cast it three times. The key word is "custom."

And I thought I knew how to use spells efficiently!

This is extra-cool to know.

Thx, Archmage!
