Low variety of mobs in Skyrim?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:53 am

Not here to complain, think the game is great, but why the low variation? I think a higher variation of species would definetly improve the experience rather than seeing the same ol' things in every dungeon

In dungeons they are spread into 2 kinds of groups you will encounter:

Draughr/Bandits

or

Falmer/Automatons

While on the above land there are:

Dragons
Bandits, bandits everywhere
Giants/Mamoths
Bears/Sabre-tooth cats

With the small variation of rare mobs like vampires and hagravens and trolls. Personally I like the rare encounters with these creatures, but I cant help but yearn for more types of creatures...especially with such an expansive map. What do you think?

Considering how the Elderscrolls series is loosely inspired by AD&D, I encourage more enemy variety as well. Beholders for one, is an enemy that I long to see and best in fantasy games. The dragons here aren't that fantastic as well, probably due to technical constrains. If you guys still have the Monsters Compendium (I'm old school, played AD&D 2.1), dragons can cast a large assortment of spells like Stoneskin (Dragonhide here), Invisiblity and any spells up to 4th/5th level, which includes fireballs and lightning bolts. In video games dragons are often just hard hitting enemies with breath weapons, even the ones found in crticially acclaimed and fan favorites Shadow Over Mystara and Demon's Souls.

Beholders have paralyzing rays which are always cool to watch in fluid motion. Nightstalkers are another favorite of mine with their cloaking abilities. Hope to see more of these in future games.

I wish they would have put the Minotaurs and Wisps in the game from Oblivion.

they promised overall variety and overall variety is fairly decent. dungeon variety however, is pretty much disgustingly terrible.

By Dungeon Variety you mean different dungeons (Design), different enemies (Mods) or different sets of dungeons? (Like Forts, Caves, Mines, etc)

I think that aside from Mob Variety the dungeons are a huge right step from Oblivion.

I wish they would have put the Minotaurs and Wisps in the game from Oblivion.

There are Wisps.

While I would personally would like more creatures, aside from a few of them (Ogres and Minotaurs) I can't think of many that would "fit" Skyrim. For some reason I don't see Scamps running around in the Tundra.
