Stormcloaks and the Legion

So we all know about Tullius and Ulfric fight over Skyrim.

But why do both sides literally wait the entire game just for one person (the player) to the action to the other side?
It's not bad of course but I think there are atleast a few players who just play neutral, so they didn't actually help any side, so wouldn't
it actually be better if after a while Tullius and Ulfric start start fighting over the Holds while you didn't join any side?

Like on random encounters you find a Courier delivering a message to you saying that a Jarl needs help defending the Hold from Stormcloaks or Legion.
Or maybe when you travel to a Hold you see it is being attacked by either side.

It'ws probably not the best idea (probably the worst).

Just tell me what you think of it.

It's not a terrible idea, but maybe I'm biased because I considered it myself. Problem is that I'm almost sure Bethesda follows the 'player is center of the universe' philosophy where gamers can pick up quests at their leisure, and a dynamic war front would interfere with that a bit.

Yeah like the last poster said, that would kind of go against people's desire for freedom in the game. If you make it so that things can happen without the player being involved it can be annoying. Things change pretty drastically after the battles too.

I think that's the reason as well. I mean, you are becoming Thane of Whiterun and then after a while, if you don't defend it, you would loose the title because the city is taken by the Stormcloaks?

Also I've gotta say, I would love a neutral approach as well. Simply defending Whiterun all the game against Imperial and Stormcloak attacks would be fun. ^^

Imperial and stormcloak are both bad guys, imperial are ruled over by the thalmor because imperial surrendered to the, and they banned the worship of talos, stormcloak are trying to take down the thalmor and bring back the worship and freedom, would be good if imperial and stormcloak could work together to take down the thalmor
