Dual Wield Dagger Sneak Damage?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:32 am

Single wielding a dagger during sneak gives x15 damage.
The DB gloves give x2 damage, giving a total of 30x

So, does dual wielding and using a power attack give you 2x that again = 60x damage?

Yea each hit does 30x damage.

So my 90 Damage Daedric Daedric and Blade of Woe do about 5,400+ Damage when put together....

And if you have a dagger with over 20 damage, I am pretty sure you can OHK a giant/mammoth.

Well being a Sneak/Assassin would be worthless if you couldn't OHK people when sneaking.

Meh, not sure I really need the dagger perks. I could always sneak stab someone through the back and gut with my obscenely powerful enchanted Elven GreatSword.

How would you do a power attack when sneaking? The stealth power attack only does one hit I think, and if you attack someone in stealth and it's a one hit kill, it plays the animation. If you stand up to do the attack, you no longer get the bonus and the enemy notices you.

Not every stealth OHK plays the animation.

Not every stealth OHK plays the animation.

Even still, the stealth power attack with a dagger is just a downward swing iirc, only the standing power attack has multiple hits. The most you can achieve with a sneak attack with a dagger is 30x.

Ahh, but still, like in Skyrim707's case, that's still 2,700 damage

Well, what everyone isn't realizing is that no creature "has 2700" in fact, no dragons do either. My blade of woe at 80 skill does about 1800. Sure glad I didn't put perks into daedric for the daggers- since more numbers won't make things more dead. But different strokes

Just sayin, but with a 10 damage Iron Dagger on Master, you can kill nearly every human enemy. (with the 30x damage)

Once you get a dagger with 30+ damage, you can OHK just about everything.

This is assuming no Damage Reduction from NPC armour though, not that it will count for much :P

you can still do the dual wield pwr attack while sneaking. which is like 3-4 hits all at 30x damage. You could kill the strongest thing in the game several times over

+1 handed damage enchants have no bearing on dagger damage though

So eventually you're better off doing 12X damage with maces/axes/swords.... considering that eventually the base damage of those is like 4X that of even the best daggers later on

Yes this is a good counter argument, but daggers do not need a completely specced and enchant powerup using items to accomplish this. And having done this myself(the incredible 1 handed damage enchants)- I do say it does make the game boring, because you are one shotting everything with your sword anyways.

if u maxed the damage of both daedric daggers(~170) and swords(~520 with + one handed weapons)
u would still do more damage with the daggers
170x15=2550
170x30=3100(with the gloves)
520x4=2080
surely if you get detected you are better off with the sword

I feel sneak attack damage is too OP in the game. Certain creatures should never be 1 hit kills, such as bosses or dragons. It takes alot of the challenge out of the game. And yeah, I did play a sneak character so I know how easy it is to oneshot mobs, especially with 100 sneak skill + perks + boosted sneak damage + nightingale / DB armor. Mobs can be 1 foot away and not see you.

Yeah, an assassin should have high damage on sneak attacks, but x30?

Thats ten times more than bows and five times more than regular non-dagger weapons. Isn't x15 enough to wipe out most mobs except bosses?

Personally I felt x15 was sufficient. The extra x15 they can give to mages as the pure mage / spells are really lacking. But that is a dfferent discussion :)

Doesn't really matter, since the 30x will instagib pretty much anything anyway.... but yes, dualwield power attack (both mousebuttons pressed) and backstab works together... I know this since I tried with two swords where 1 12x would not be enough for an instagib, so must gave gotten the hit from both... I think you might get more than 2 hits with this combo also, but I am not sure... if so that would mean a potential 4x30x modifier.

yeah stated earlier that duel dagger attacks is like 3 or 4 hits, which with the gloves and perks is 120x damage.

Things to keep in mind though.

Even if OH attacks with swords or maces did more damage, you still have the silence factor the dagger has over a sword or mace. Meaning you can silently kill someone standing right next to another. Can't do that with a sword, you will be detected after first hit.

Even if you are wielding 2 daggers, doing the dual power attack while sneaking is noisy, and can alert someone nearby making you either discovered or close to.

Another tip people may not realize. If you are like me and want to use a dagger and sword in the other so that you can actually stand your ground in a real fight, make sure that you equip the dagger in your right hand. If you equip the sword in your right hand the game will assume your offhand is a sword, even if its a dagger. Power attacks with the dagger wont be silent, even if they are one shots. This can be fixed by using the dagger in your right hand and sword in left.

A good way to test and see what kind of attacks are noisy is to go to a crypt and find a dormant duagr laying down. Sneak by him and try out power attacks near it with various weapons and combinations. You'll find the only time your eye indicator not opening up is when you OH swing with a dagger. Here you can test what I was talking about with the sword and dagger. If your sword is in your right hand and power attack with the dagger in the left, the eye indicator will open briefly. You'll also find the dual power attack with 2 dagger will cause the indicator to open briefly as well.

I have yet to find myself in a position to sneak attack a dragon without a bow. They're always (at rest) in places I can't reach with melee.

It is possible, and amusing to do at least once. They get up and fly for a second, then crash and burn.

You can do it on a few lair dragons who either rest on the ground or on perches which aren't tall enough to avoid a dagger blow to the tail, but mostly it won't be doable. On those dragons I have managed to confirm instagibs...first prolly at around level 20, and last at around level 50 (elder dragons).

I guess theoretically you could also manage to sneak up on a dragon attacking NPCs, but that would require patience on a godlike scale.

It doesn't really matter though, cause there are many combinations of powers/eq/perks that make dragons very easy.

There's no point in doing the two handed power attack. All you have to do is tap both mouse buttons at the same time and you swing both daggers at the same time. That's 60x damage in a fraction of the time it would take you to do the full two handed power attack at 0 stamina cost. It's also much easier to hit a moving target with.
