Need help with merging, load order, and other questions.

Ok, so I drudged through the many posts and guides about plugin merging (with TES4Gecko), and frankly am still not certain what's safe to merge in my load order, and I've run into a few other problems. That's my biggest problem right now, just figuring out what I should merge to get me below the limit and able to load all my mods.

I have 176 mods in my installer list, 170 actually installed. Unfortunately while that's well below 255, it amounted to 350 ESPs/ESMs. The majority of the mods are either visual enhancements or big quests. I have FCOM installed. I'll post my load order, but I don't know of any way to get Wrye Bash to list plugins that aren't loaded as well as those that are, since I'm so far over the limit. There isn't much rhyme or reason to what's currently selected in my load order. I did build a bash patch, which merged some mods so that at least shrinks the list a little.

I also was going to try cleaning some of the mods with TES4Edit, but like Wrye Bash, it only lists the mods that are checked on the list. I suppose I can disable a handful in order to enable the ones that need cleaning, but I was wondering if there's any way to have TES4Edit see those mods that aren't enabled.. it would certainly make things quicker.

Another thing I just noticed, all the INI tweaks in Bash are Invalid (orange) except for "All_Natural-18305-1-31.7z - Wizard Tweak [All Natural].ini". All other tweaks including the DarkUId DarN fonts, say they apply changes to All Natural.ini.

Finally, after I manage to get my whole load order listed, I'd love to take suggestions of any great mods I may have missed.

Merging might not be necessary.

Install the mods you want, ghost the files that wrye bash merges, and then move unused files out of your data folder. With the numbers you are reporting, that will probably do the trick.

With Wrye Bash open in the Mods tab, right click on the Files header and select list mods.
That will list ALL the mods not ghosted. Including inactive mods merged to the Bashed Patch.
And as an added bonus, the list will be copied to the windows clipbaord so you can paste it directly into your post.

Ah ok, all the inactive ones (not merged or imported, but specified as Non-Active) are ghosted. Turning off Auto-Ghost allowed other utilities to see the mods (now that I looked up exactly what ghosting is, kind of a "well duh" moment). However Bash still isn't listing the Non-Active mods in the "List Mods" list.

Also, all the merged and imported mods were already ghosted.

EDIT: There are about 44ish mods that are currently inactive that I need to make room for.

There are some glaring issues with that mod list. The kinds of issue that, to be blunt, would not be there had you read the documentation as required, and followed all relevant instructions precisely.

Before you go about adding any more mods, or even thinking about merging plugins, I strongly suggest that you correct that which is already installed.

I do not intend to come across as being mean, or rude. My apologies if it seems that way, though. I know what it can be like, with advice that might not appear to be welcome at first.

Good luck, and I hope it all works out well for you.

I did read the documentation of all the mods. However since I ended up doing all the work late at night on little sleep over the course of two weeks it's entirely possible I missed something. It would be helpful if you could point out the "glaring" issues however.

EDIT: also keep in mind I did already say a lot of files are missing from that posted load order. As for direct conflicts, I didn't notice any that were completely incompatible when I went through the readmes the first time around... otherwise with no clues to what you're seeing, I have around 222 readmes to dig through... again.

OCR makes every city but the Imperial City an Open City, I use BBC for OCR, I do not have Better Cities - Open Better Cities.esp or Better Cities - Knights of the Nine.esp in my Load Order.
You can use a CBash Bashed Patch to increase the amount of mods in your Load Order, but you will end up with missing water outside of the Cheydinhall East Entrance <--- This can be avoided by moving the OCR+Cheydinhall Falls patch after your Bashed Patch as an active mod, the water change is caused by the OCR + OOO.esp when used with CBash.
I can not see anything else glaringly obvious, but I do not use some of the mods that you have.

Guess I rushed through those ones. Made the necessary corrections. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm having a hard time finding anything about Cbash. Been searching the help files looking for more info.

:wink_smile: I know exactly where your coming from with that statement.
My posts are often misinterpreted as that way because I'm often blunt, sometimes to the point of being curt.

@Briareos
Do take some advice though. Don't even attempt to run that load order without some serious testing.
The first step would be to ensure that your FCOM installation is working perfectly before adding anything else. When your completely satisfied turn on perhaps six more and retest. Rinse and repeat untill your mod list is complete.
Regardless of how experienced you may be with installing mods I can almost guarantee a mod list of that size will have some issues. Trying to troubleshoot will be frustrating, very difficult and exceptionally time consuming.
Also remember the age of Oblivion. It's engine was never the best even when it was first released.
No matter your rigs specs, Oblivion will possibly choke, especially if your running hi-rez texture replacers, various shaders through OBGE, LODS, mods with a heap load of NPC's and AI (FCOM) etc.

Okay, well, the first thing I would suggest doing is running BOSS, and reading the html it spits out. Carefully. I do not mean it spits it out carefully... hm.

I suspect at least most of what I could see, it will see, and tell you about (also, what to do about). It really is that useful a tool, and not just for load ordering.

I ended up cutting back a lot of the mods to mostly just FCOM, UI enhancements, and some graphic enhancements. I got it running and as far as I can tell it seems stable. I do have slightly low fps, but that can be tweaked easily enough. I created a character and started in Anvil as an immigrant (Alternative Beginnings). I then ran north up the coast a bit killing crabs until I made the mistake of tangling with some clannfears and died. I noticed that I forgot to run TES4LODGen after deactivating all those mods, so there were quite a few visual bugs of things appearing in the distance that weren't actually there.

The last thing I deactivated before getting it to run without crashing upon selecting to start a new game, was Unique Landscapes. Might have to nuke that out if it was really the culprit.

EDIT: Getting clipping of my arms on attacks, and npc's no longer have loin cloths. More things to investigate. (the combat animations are from one of the currently inactive mods. Will have to figure out which.)

EDIT 2: I'm gonna just start over again. Gonna do a fresh install and probably avoid the combat mods this time. They caused some weird clipping issues (might have been just one of them, but uninstalling them all in BAIN didn't get rid of the glitch). Glad I converted almost everything to a BAIN package, will make it relatively painless.
