My setup used to be fine, but it was about a year old. Of course I was not careful enough and did not make a backup of the installed
packages. Instead I updated a whole bunch (I guess that's still ok), and added a few, (Oh dear, yes all at once.) and guess what - a CTD approximately one or two minutes into the game. It does not seem to appear inside but only outdoors. And yes, I did clean all my esps...
I checked the output of BOSS, and nothings catches my eye.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled numerous packages, but one must have slipped my mind. After searching for the culprit for more than 10 hours today, I am quite exhausted. I takes me roughly 15 minutes to uninstall a package, quite Wrye Bash 2.95, open it again, build a new CBash Patch, and start the game. Unmodded Obli still works flawless. I already found out that Reneers Rain Mod is broken, and read streamline's buffer
might cause some graphics glitches, but my CTDs are still there...

My Oblivio Ram is at 1.2 Gigs, so that should be fine. Also I am cruising at 15 FPS thanks to OSR through the Imperial City. My graphics card memory is at max 650MB out of 896 MB (GTX 275) with the latest driver 285_15-51so that should be fine as well. Still using WinXP 32 bit on a Core2Quad 2850Ghz. (Hence no 4GB Patch) Not the fastest machine, but not too bad either...

Please, please help me.

Thanks for your feedback. Hm, that's an idea. Initially I did not run it at all. I am still working under the assumption that graphics glitches don't cause CTDs, and LOD I consider as graphics only. It might not look nice, but I prefer a stable game over fantastic graphics. (Same reason I kept the vanilla meshes and did not install QTP.) However the last 4 or 5 times I ran the bashed patch I had built the LOD. I think I only uninstalled mods without LODs, so I know I did not rerun TES4LODgen. ... I'm at work now, so I can't check immediately...

As most of it was about the LAA 4gb patch, which it clearly states does not work on any 32-bit system, I might have not paid enough attention. I will go through it once more indepth on the weekend. As I said in the OP, I don't think it's a memory issue as the ram is roughly at 1.2 gigs, when I start to walk outside.

Now, what do you mean by OBSS? I did search the thread but could not find those four letters. Do you actually mean OSR? I think I am using Threadheap6, but I don't think I have 1024 MB preallocated.

This said, I had another culprit in mind, the "bsa"s. As far as I know, the load order of the bsa files does not matter, any file in the /meshes or /textures subfolder will overwrite it. No problem then. This said the only thing I could not figure out is, what happens if two .bsa have the same file. I read that then, "weird, unpredictable things" happen. So I unpacked all my bsas, put them in the Bash Installers folder and look at the conflicts. (I don't install them, I just use them to see what's inside the BSA, which I have installed, and where things might be overwritten.) Unless I missed something, I did not spot any files that were in two bsas (maybe I missed some newly installed bsas. I should check for that.)

Anyway, thanks for reading and answering. Feels great to know I am not alone out there.

I changed the heap value and also turned on a couple of things that are off by default but that OSR says are probably safe to turn on. You'll find them in the read-me. I had run the LAA patch before, so that can't have been it, so I guess it must have been the OSR stuff. As you say, it may not be your problem, but it should be worth trying anyways :)

Well, yeah, there are a couple of old threads from 2010 which say that there is a way to add "/3GB" to some file, but most people agree that it really destabilizes your entire system if you are running a 32 bit XP.
So I am not going to try. I should though, because I fear that my game crashes because of a memory problem, contradicting my own statement earlier. Oblivion runs fine, when I am not near the IC Waterfront. I did a second check on the memory used. I thought I had no problem because I was far away from 1.6 Gig, but it constantly crashes around 1.4 Gigs. I installed Wiseman's reduced Textures which bring the Ram down to roughly 1.2 and everything seems fine now, keeping my fingers crossed.

As a more radical method I might consider updating to a 64-bit system, maybe Christmas vacation...?

Get a pcb mod - like RedDelpcb. It purges cell buffers, and allows game to last longer.

Or alternately, type "pcb" in console every 10 minutes. Suggest doing it outdoors, after you've exited a city and are not planning to go back in right away.
