Opinion on Werewolves

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:19 am

Now, this is only my opinion of course. I'd love to hear other opinions on this, because I actually haven't heard much discussion about Werewolves anywhere.
I was very excited about werewolves. I thought it was a great idea to bring them back to the series, but there are a few things that really bother me about Skyrim Werewolves:

-The concept of a temporary transformation, rather than a nightly/full moon transformation, really doesn't float my boat. I love the idea of being able to cruise the entire night as a beast, rather than rushing to find someone to eat. This also makes transforming in the wilderness useless, as there aren't as much people to find. Even if it can help in a fight sometimes.

-Unless I'm exploring the wrong places, there are practically no werewolves to be found in the world. I was really hoping to just run into a werewolf in the wilderness, but I've yet to find any. :(

-No way to traditionally receive Lycanthropy, like in Daggerfall or Morrowind. Being able to get attacked by a werewolf with a chance of becoming a werewolf sounds....fun, in the scary/intense kind of way.

I love this game, and so these are just minor complaints compared to everything else in Skyrim. I'm sure modders will eventually be able to remedy these, but I still hate to say I'm slightly disappointed.

I like werewolves or vampires in games when it comes to kill them, not when you are forced to become one.

My opinion is the "companions" is misleading. It is a werewolf guild but you have no clue about it when you ask to join and you are stuck in the quesline if you don't want to become a werewolf as soon as you are accepted.

They say "not all are werewolves, only the inner circle". Only SOME companions are supposed to enter the circle, not the budding adventurer. If the others "ordinary" companions have passed the trial to join, why are they not werewolves too ? And so you get stuck without any way to get further jobs with this guild, impossible to quit or to be expelled and you must suffer the rude remarks of your "brothers and sisters" forever... Killing all of them to teach them how they should speak to their betters doesn't even make you expelled.

What I wonder is, if you run around as a werewolf and people notice you and try to kill you, but you run away, then transform back to human form. Will they STILL be after you?

Being a werewolf is kinda dissapointing! I got svcked into becoming one like two quests into the guild. Then about 3 quests later i find myself doing a quest for the cure, only to come back to a glitch. No quest options, no cure. So i guess im stuck as one forever?

Did you finish the companion questline?

I'm guessing not.....

I was excited when I first heard about werewolves in Skyrim, but now in game I am not so excited anymore. Mainly because of the temp transformation.

I play the game using a console command to slow down time to 1 minute playing equals 2 minutes in game. So, when going werewolf I stay werewolf a whole lot longer. :) People might like it. I liked it. But yet, my question above still remains too. If anyone knows.

Replying in spoiler due to nature of conversation

Spoiler
Did you cure the Harbringer (leader) of the companions? If so you can return to the tomb where you helped him fight his wolf spirit at any time with a witch head to cure yourself. Simply Activate the same pedestal Over time various companions may or may not give you a quest to cure their own Lycanthropy

This strain of lyncanthropy is somewhat explained in the questline for it as well as being a special specific curse for those in question... which could cover the non-compliance with standard werewolf transformation (uncontrolled under full moon type)

Becoming a werewolf should never have been such a big part of a major faction IMO. I'd rather they had made it more like Vincente Valtieri's vampirism in Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood.

I didnt cure anybody. I came back to Whiterun and the Silver Hand killed that one guy. While everyone is mourning, i cant only talk to one guy (cant recall name atm). And he gives me no quest options.

I don't mind it's a big part, but there should have been an opt out IMO

II too would like the fighters guild questline unfettered by being forced to become a werewolf against my will. The only way I know of to prevent that is to wait till you're inducted (so you get a skyforged sword) and then stop the questline. I'd like Bethesda to add a fix where you have a dialog option to not be transformed into a werewolf but instead do the rest of the quest line as a normal fighter. But barring that, I'll just go on with other questlines. I hate to give up some of the benes in the quest line but that's the breaks I guess.

FFS There IS an opt out...

you only have to do like 4 quests as a werewolf

for the love of god people

And not to be a spoiler punk.. but it's kinda a central theme to the entire questline

i agree about wanting to wander the wilds at night in beast form, 2 mins of beast isnt long enough to enjoy it, especially when your just dashing to your next victim before you turn back.

i dont understand why i free caged werewolves and they attack me...cant they smell i'm 1 of them?

I thoroughly enjoyed being able to become a werewolf, but I agree with a few things previous posters have said. You ought to be able to come across werewolves randomly (albeit rarely), and potentially catch lycanthropy from them, if you survive. It is a weird gameplay choice to limit the amount of time being a werewolf to such an extent and make it only extendable through feasting on dead bodies. I get the concept, but in gameplay, it takes a good chunk of fun out of it. you have to plan out your transformation, instead of going beast form once a day whenever the situation gets dire.

The healing isn't a huge deal for me, as you can eat dead people to regen health, but it seems like your damage and magic resistances go out the window when playing as a werewolf. you ought to get a resistance to normal weapons, and maybe even a lesser resistance to enchanted weapons and magic. Also, silver weapons should be more available throughout the world, as they were in Oblivion. That would even the playing field a bit, and make it more fun to transform. At higher levels, I don't bother transforming into a werewolf unless I'm fighting bandits or townsfolk. High-level Forsworn, mages, and dragons can tear through a werewolf far too quickly to be any fun.

I still like the option, and it is fun to occasionally terrorize folks in beast form, but it needs tweaking.

Good reason for this.....

You lose all your equipment.

So any resitances, stamina or health boosts, etc on your apparel is all lost while in werewolf form.

It is an amazing ability at low level when you (likely) first get it.... and by the time you can get the cure (only 4-5 quests later) you can easily have power leveled up smithing to dwarven at least and outfitted yourself to fight almost as good normal as you do in wolf form.

And it only goes down from there.

A bit of a dissapointment... but I don't see anything worth complaining over personally.

Skyrim's werewolves are terrible.

If they want to go closer to Daggerfall, fine. but give us the forced transformations we had then, too. Also add wild werewolves. Oh and werewolves are far too weak. Worse than Bloodmoon. And they were weak.
