Blood splotches on screen after combat...

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 7:52 am

Why would the designers, who have done such an incredible job creating the world of Skyrim, remind me that there's a television screen between me and that world? I'm sure there are people who think it's a cool effect, but to me, it's an immersion-killer. I want to feel like I'm THERE! Not reminded I'm playing a video game! Bethseda - please patch the game with an OPTION to turn this ill-conceived feature off for those who hate it, while still allowing those who like it to enjoy it.

If you got blood in your eye you would see it.

Also, many other games have done this in the past.

I don't think it's meant to remind you that there's a TV screen between you and the game, but rather to create the illusion that your vision is obstructed by the blood of your enemies splattering across your face and eyes.

I agree it's kind of an annoyance. If you got blood in your eyes it would not look like that, you would probably be blinking and wiping them trying to get it out.

Immersion is a huge factor to me, but to honest, I really don't have a problem with this. As far as immersion killers go, there are far bigger issues.

Actually OP has a point. Getting blood in the eye would just make it go dark if anything. You would be wiping like crazy because it stings, not just continue on like nothing happened.
I also looks like blood splattered on a glass (or a tvscreen for that matter).

No, you wouldn't. When you get fluid in your eyes you do not see little dots. Eyes are small, 1 drop is enough to make you squint.

I don't think it's a huge issue but I do hate when games do it. It makes it feel like you're either wearing glasses or watching blood splatter on a camera lens.

1) I don't think the designers "intended" for it to remind me of the screen; I understand that they want to convey the idea of blood in your eyes.
2) But blood in your eyes doesn't look anything remotely like the effect as its rendered.

I play in 3rd person, so for me it's blood getting all over the camera of the documentary film maker who's following my character around. It also annoys me, and I get rid of it in every game I can with a mod.

That's what it looks like when I get blood on my glasses when I slash a Giant's hamstring apart...

For me it was just plain distracting. Modded it out and the fights are much better.

ok so it seems to me you want realism so why dont you squint in real life when you see blood on the screen. there problem solved. immerzun is saved.

....

It's not at all realistic and it's bad for 3d vision play (and skyrim is awesome in true 3d) but there is a mod for that.

I could do without it. I tend to play in third person so to me it seems more like one of those "Hey, dummy, you've just been injured" reminders. Duh.

Since the game cannot stab you in the chest every time you get stabbed, it needs a visual representation.
