in order to have more choices, the game must focus on logic more than preset game structures.

By removing any story and instead increasing the complexity of character reactions, you can have far more possible endings and far more choice.

Yup

I remember when FO3 came out, specifically, it was Beths first attempt at having branching quests/multiple ways to complete just about every quest in the game. Now, there were two sides to the argument, one side praised them for their in-depth take on how a person could react to a given situation. The other side, well, they hated Beth because there were so few quests in the game. They ranted and raved about how Beth cut content left and right just to give "2 paths to the same goal". And thats what we have here, only now people are [censored]ing about not having choice, instead of seeing the plethora of quests and lore to be your guide.

I don't need a story, I create my own, thank you very much! I believe that's why it's called a role-playing-game

In some cases GTA is similiar to TES...

The rags to riches escalation
The sand box feel, do what you want when you want how you want.

However with skyrim as someone said on the forums is more of a fantasy rp simulator. You can have alot more fun with the game if you stick to your characters personality that you developed.

If you treat it like a hack and slash, firebolt spam that's all it will feel like.
As far as quest choices and outcomes, they are bland at times but they're for when you get bored of the exploration or w/e you intended for your character to do.

Hobo +1 to you

I'm not complaining nor insulting. I think I already stated that my friend mentality is the GTA mentality. In no way was I saying Skyrim was GTA. I was saying what my friend thought when I brought this idea up.

@Hobo: Stories inspire stories. It's how we got the myths. The stories of a hero in war, inspires the stories of the bard. RPing is the same way.

Perhaps he means the Morag Tong from which the DB originated

Wat? The DB and the Morag Tong are not at all related.

As for topic... eh. To each his own. It's kind of fashionable to be dismissive, people construct comparisons like this I guess, but it always seems superficial. It's the thing to do it seems. Personally, I found me an interesting, fun, exploring, exciting game, even sometimes, in terms of a certain edginess exploring in places above my skill, that reminds me of the fun I had in Morrowind way back... well longer than I cared to think about.

Yes they are...

Since I can't name off the books even in Skyrim that point to this very fact:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Morag_Tong

The brotherhood's origins lie with the Morag Tong, but some time after the assassination of Potentate Versidue-Shaie by the Morag Tong in 2E 324 the Dark Brotherhood split away. The exact reason for this schism in the Morag Tong is a topic still debated on by scholars. One theory holds that, after the murder of Potentate Versidue-Shaie (and the outlawing of the Morag Tong throughout the whole of Tamriel) the Morag Tong appealed to the highest power in Morrowind to ensure their existence. The highest powers in Morrowind at that time were the three god-kings, Almalexia, Sotha Sil and Vivec. Mephala, whom the Tong worshipped as their patron goddess, was seen by the Dunmer as Anticipation of Vivec. This theory concludes that because of this it is logical to assume that in exchange for tolerance of their continued existence, the Tong ceased their worship of Mephala in exchange for the worship of Vivec. The Dark Brotherhood could not forgive their brethren in Morrowind for this betrayal, resulting in the war between the two organizations that has lasted until this day.[1] This theory is contradicted by the shrine to Mephala found in the Morag Tong Headquarters in Vivec.

According to the book Sacred Witness by Enric Milres the Dark Brotherhood was created by members of the Thieves Guild. This theory holds that somewhere in the Second Era some members of the Thieves Guild found it efficacious to strangle the occupant of the house when performing a burglary. The leadership of the Thieves Guild disagreed with this and found it too dangerous for business. As a reaction to this, an unnamed female Guild member founded her very own murder syndicate. When members of the Morag Tong, disgruntled with the Tong’s assassination of Potentate Savirien-Chorak in 2E 431, joined this organization it became officially known as the Dark Brotherhood.
