There is a quest in Riften for the Temple of Mara. It gets a 15% permanent Magic Resistance Ability. It should really help you out for increasing that Magic Resistance.

This, Unless of course the 1.2 patch has broken your resistances.

Magic resistance is bugged. Anyway, to beat mages get up close with become ethereal or whatever other tactic available and shield bash them while slashing, they're easy to kill 1 on 1.

Solution: wait until finals are over. Bethesda broke the game on purpose to promote studying and high grades.

I heard the shield doesn't count against that, but I they were probably wrong :P

I think you can still enchant any shield with that effect though.

Block Runner and Bash are huge against boss mages.

I'm Orc and therefore also have an I WIN ability.

Magic Resist Options (when it is fixed so it actually works, in 1.2 you have 0% magic resist, period):

Lord Stone: 25%
Being a Breton: 25%
Alteration Perks: 10%, 20%, or 30% (depending on your investment of course)
Shield Perk: 50% fire/frost/lightning when blocking
Quest reward: 15%
Ring: Up to 29% (?) with max enchanting and a +32% enchanting potion (you can find/buy at least 22%)
Necklace: See ring
Shield: Not sure the max enchant but it's higher than the ring/neck also a few unique shields, including one that creates a lesser ward when blocking which mixed with high magic resist can negate ALL damage from spells.

Element Specific:
Dunmer: 50% Fire Resist
Nord: REsist 50% Frost Resist
Boots: Enchantment Resist Fire, Frost, or Shock (up to 50%?)
Shield: Enchantment Resist Fire, Frost, or Shock (up to 50%?)

And of course there's potions. I'm not sure the max on potions except Resist Magic is less than the element specific ones but they're also temporary.

Anywhere around 70% and up (caps at 85%, again when it works) and mages become pretty pathetic, even dragon breath is negligible damage with that level of magic/element resist. I'm not sure if how element specific resists work with magic resist but I know magic resist works on all elements so I always just focus on that.

Hmm, this is nice, didnt know that.

So if your a Breton, go in the alteration tree, and this quest, that should be a permanent 65% magic resistance?

25%, 30% and 15% is 70% actually, but yes it works (not in 1.2 obviously). That's my character right now (using 1.1 still, ) and I'm way more worried about archers and some melee enemies than I am about mages. If you throw in one of the other magic resist options to cap out at 85% mages and dragon breath are even more pathetic.

savior's hide from Hircine quest. It's a decent light armor (probably on par with leather armor but less than scale armor) with a 15% magic resistance. It's also a very sixy outfit for females!

allright, thank you for filling me in.

this makes me wonder if I should reroll my lvl 8 wood elf thief/assassin, haha :-P Tho, I'm mostly in the shadows and killing them mages without they noticing me, but you can never be to safe, right? :-P

If I'm planning on making another one, then it should be a Breton shield warrior, who can tank out everything in this game.
