guards are too weak to defend a town against high level drag

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:16 pm

elder dragon can kill town guard in one hit which is bad new for dawnstar as it suffers a elder dragon attack every time I visit with my level 40 dark elf, which the town would eventually become a ghost town.
guards need their own unique high tier weapons and armour to stand a chance against late level dragons such as the elder dragon.

Aha. So Guards should be strong like a dovahkiin? That would be fun if everybody could kill a high level dragon! but wait... why would they need you then...

This. What a bizarre complaint.

By the way OP, you might want to avoid fast travelling to Dawnstar. Fast travel seems to increase the chances of a dragon attack.

Dragon spawns seem to increase as you progress the main quest until you finish it. You have the power to save Dawnstar.

Indeed. All those arrows to the knees mean those town guards are not at their adventuring strongest! It's your responsibility as Dovahkin to slay the dragons.

Which is the point. They can handle bandits but Dragons are supposed to be fearsome. They should get down on their knees when they see you approaching and battling the Dragon, toe-to-toe.

They do...kind of.

Once you kill a dragon, any townsfolk who are outside come running up to it saying things like "is it really dead?" "I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes." "You really are the Dragonborn!" Etc. etc.

I always enjoy it when my characters accomplishments get recognized by the NPCs in the game.

I wondered what happened to Alvor....off fighting dragons. Leaving his wife, children and forge.

But seriously, can Alvor die once he isn't an essential charcter. Beucase if he can't I think he's fallen through the floor.

They don't disappear from the game afterwards, do they? That would svck, plus killing them is my favorite thing to do.

Ha, I remember the threads and threads during the "Oblivion Crisis" in how city guards were always ridiculously harder than the Champion of Cyrodiil... they should have imported some imperial city guards to sort out those dragons.

If dragons couldn't kill guards or civilians then why are they a threat? What's the point of the whole main quest if nobody dies and guards can solo elder dragons.

And yeah if you really want to avoid a town attack then don't fast travel to a town. Dragon seem to be on a in game timer. When a certain amount of ingame time has passed there is a very high chance of a dragon showing up. Some places also have an extra chance for them to spawn. Fast travel will make in game time pass as if you had walked there so travelling large distances with fast travel will increase chance of them spawning. If you are the type of person that always wants a perfect outcome with no casualties, you can always fast travel to a remote point close to a town and fight the dragon there. Once you kill one there will next to no chance of encountering a new dragon until a certain time has passed.

I don't think important quest npcs can die though they should all be essential unless you the player kill them. There are lots of civilians that can die though, and there family even has dialogue that will reflect them having lost someone close which is cool.

I don't mind guards dying during dragon fights, it is a dragon after all, but when they kill blacksmiths or useful npcs it's really annoying. I wish they would at least make an effort to hide and let the guards be the fodder.

Main problem: Guard level being fixed when you first meet them. In my game, for some reason, Whiterun guards are 10 times weaker than Riften guards.

This is false, on several occasions I've had 2 dragons land at the same time, or one dragon attack me immediately upon killing another. Whatever the coding says about dragon attacks, there isn't anything in place to effectively prevent them just ganging up on you if they want.

..btw if you turn off shout cooldown, you can take on two dragons with nothing but shouts.. it is beyond awesome.

If guards were strong enough o kill dragons then people would be complaining about that even more. It may be a pain in the ass sometimes but I would much rather deal with this very rare occasion then guards being over-powered.

All quest NPCs should be unkillable until you're done with them.
