Cant get online

I just got a used copy of Brink and tried to use the code the game gave me to get online however its saying the code has already been used does this mean i will not be able to get online at all and i just paid for a game i wanted to play online for no reason? If anyone has any info please let me know.

To magic hand5: you just got to freeplay and go under public match
