How do greatswords actually attach to the character?

I like how in games like Red Dead Redemption and The Witcher 2 the developers included persistent sheaths for the character models that fit any weapon they had slung on their back.

I suppose such a small detail would have been unnecessarily tedious for Bethesda since they are more focused on the big picture (and also since Skyrim is 1st person primarily) rather than the details, but it's still a nice thing to see.

Hyperdimensional pockets.

Here's how everything that don't make sense work:
Magic did it.

This.

Don't know how many times playing pencil and paper D&D we run into something that doesn't really make sense.

"That's not what would have happened, WTF?" "Eh...must be magic."

Landsknechts used to carry their Zweihanders like http://images.wikia.com/deadliestfiction/images/a/a4/German_landsknecht.jpg while on the march. No scabbards for those as I recall. They could be wrapped in the cloth when it rained or when camping.

Edit: I'd love if the need for scabbard or other means of weapon accomodation was modded in. You'd have to craft a scabbard or you'd had to throw it away each time you had to do something with both your hands.

Its not physicaly possable to draw a sword from a scabbard on your back, especialy one as big as a two-handed sword (it can be done but you would need a a short or curved sword). What I want to know is why do we draw our swords from the right hip when it is quicker and needs less room to draw from the right hip assuming we are all right handed.

Huh? No it's not.

if you draw a sword from the right of your hip with your right hand you're more likely to acidentally stab yourself in the gut than draw your sword, with a dagger it might be true but you need some space with a sword, drawing from the left side gives you that, and is obviously faster.
