Is Caesar based on Julius

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:11 pm

I haven't done any Legion story so I don't want spoilers, if you feel the need to post them please hide them.

From the impression I have got, is Caesar based on Gaius Julius Caesar?? Or is he a mixture of a lot of different Roman leaders?? Because if it was based on Julius Caesar, there were more ruthless and more scary Roman Emperors.

I compare him more to Nero considering how much of a tyrant he is.

Would be more fun if he was based on Caligula (The Malcom McDowel version).... sadly, he isn't =/

He isn't based strictly on one Roman. He's mostly Julius Caesar with his "crossing his Rubicon and overthrowing the corrupt senate (NCR)."
He however, unlike JC, doesn't claim to wish to reinstate a government elected by the people after his dictatorship. Caesar wishes to remain in power for life.
The real life Pax Romana (Caesar's supposed goal after he conquers California) was under Augustus.

Like I said, he isn't strictly based off of one person, he's just using a loose Roman model to create his own military dictatorship.

The Malcolm McDowell version was an idiot, the real Caligula was a nutbar, but he was also a fairly competent general, leading expeditions to Britain. Saying that he was a psychopath. Nero was probably more ruthless, he had clear goals but in the end all he wanted to do was be an actor. Maybe that's all Caesar wants, to be on the Silver Screen.

Lolwut.
Are we thinking of the same Caligula? Caligula's "British expedition" was just a bunch of goofing around looking for seashells.
Caligula's father was the famous general, not him.

Yeah same one, I forgot he went looking for cockles and declared war on Neptune.

EDIT: Either way, nutbar.

Indeed. LittleBoots was far from a competent general.

Doubt it - which program? Being a 2nd year Classics/History Major is where I'm getting this actually.

Nero was way too incompetent to do what Caesar has done but he is certainly no Gaius Julius Caesar either.

i'd say it's just based on the collective Roman Empire and Julius Caesar serves as a prominent figurehead of that part of history so i guess he could have based his persona off of him specifically. doesn't he say he's read the commentarii de bello gallico at some point as well? or am i completely wrong
