One of the weirdest design choices

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:26 pm

Hi there fellas!

I just wanted to briefly inform you of a weird thing I noticed some time ago, when I first wore a full set of smithed ebony armor.

While right now (level 50) I'm keeping my armor below 500 (The armor cap is so stupidly easy to reach and protects for too much, rendering the use of heavy armor and perking rather stupid, 80%) to keep the game entertaining even at master difficulty when fighting fellas at melee, back then I had 800 armor points. Funny thing is, due to my armor being above 700, no special music was played when fighting dragons, which is, IMHO, pretty [censored]: If you hadn't noticed, combat music is displayed only if the enemies are strong enough to overcome a hidden rating provided by armor (As soon as I removed a piece of armor the music kicked in).

The thing is, does anyone know how this actually works? Are mages or light armor users having any similar "restrictions" to the battle music?

Love and Tolerance.

It's weird but isn't weird at the same time.

It's a weird design choice to tie Armor Rating and Music...

It's not a weird choice to want Epic Music at Epic Battles.

Wut

Well, I guess it makes sense not to play the "Dovahkiiiiiiiin"-track when being nibbled by mudcrabs.

It's not a matter of having It, It's a matter of not having It.

EDIT: To clarify, I meant the dragon battle music not being played against dragons, not even the normal combat music, and no combat music against random enemies

Epic music doesn't make sense when you can kill a dragon in 3 hits.

I still get epic music though from Ancient Dragons and my armor rating is like 850, so I don't know what you're talking about in terms of dragons. I have experienced this with lesser enemies though. The music that is played is relative to the threat the enemy presents.

Interesting; I never noticed that. I guess they wanted to keep the music more fitting for the context.

Armor's an odd choice though. Maybe it takes a bunch of different factors into account to compare you to the enemy and the armor rating was what pushed it over the edge?

It's just to avoid the "epic" battle music playing (like Oblivion) every time you fought a mud-crab.

They had to do it somehow.

Yeah, but shuldn't It be tied to level instead of armor? Mages will still get music with mudcrabs and warriors will end up music-less.

Less meaning for levels, the better.

Do not mock the mighty mud crab!

My zombie mud crab ate 3 imperial guards and 1 stormcloak soldier last night as I crouched on a rock and watched.

hahaha really? Thats cool that they put in a "have fun smashing faces" song and a "**** your pants" song depending on how hard the enemy is. :celebration:

They did it so random epic bgm wouldn't start playing when you're fighting a wolf or a mudcrab.

It was soooooo annoying.
Anyone who played Oblivion knows!

*walking around in the forest in full daedric set. EPIC song starts playing*
*tun tun tun tun da da da da da tun tun tun tun tun*

"Oh shi- Time to kick some ass!! Wooooo- "*turns around and sees mudcrab*
