CDkey and account

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 4:31 am

I am playing crysis 2 with the cd key of my friend, we both have diferent accounts so we don't play with the same character, problem is that we can't play together...
The question is if I buy the game will I be able to play with my account ? or they are binded to the cd key ? My character level 33 :P

Thankss

It shouldnt matter. What do you mean you cant play together?
If you go on seperate computers on seperate accounts, add friends on MP then you can play together :)

The CD-key is only for activating the game, whatever you do in-game doesnt matter, and shouldnt effect the CD-key.

And by the way, if you do buy the game and get a different CD-key it doesnt matter. Your account will still be there and you will still be lvl 33 :)

Just to note, each CD key has a certain amount of times that you can use it before it exceeds the limit, then you will have to contact EA customer support to let you use the cd key again but once EA let you use the key a few more times they wont let you use it anymore.. because i think its like 10-15 uses, so they will get suspicious or something if you keep redeeming your code :P

Actually. the multiplayer accounts are tied to the CD key: You can have as many as you want, but they are not normally allowed to play at the same time.

If you buy the game, you will have to create a new MP character (gamesas.com account) with a new name and zeroed stats. I believe Jared is mistaken on this because you cant change the CD-key associated with an existing MP account. I think that the account may still work, but you still wont be able to play against your friend at the same time.... Never having had two CD-keys, I haven't actually tried it.

The activation limit for Crysis 2 installs is 5. That means 5 computers or 5 fresh installs. The tally is kept online in the EA databases. When you get your own copy, be sure and do your friend the favor of restoring one of his activations (use activation.exe in the Crysis2\bin32 folder) before doing your fresh uninstall/reinstall.

Uh, ive at least installed it nearly 10times :)
And cdkey is for account? hmm really?

i thought cd key was for activation and the gamesas account would store the ifnormation about your mp account or similar...
in their cloud or w/e xD

A fresh installation is one where the key is not already in the windows registry, as in a different computer or when you format your HD. If you have done that 10 times, then I stand corrected. I'm guessing you have re-installed 10 times? Also, uninstalling calls activation.exe to bump up the install tally.

And yes, CD key (serial #) is for account, hmm really. It is the basic validation for online play.

;)

EDIT: In truth, I dont really know what will happen if you use an account created with one valid serial # on a second valid install. You could be right. I only know that CD-key info is associated with the account because of the ways multiple accounts are linked.

On the login screen look at the bottom, I think you can change your account's CD key there.

^Yeah, you can. Now I really want to know what happens when you use an account on a second machine with a different CD key. Anyone done it?

I'm almost ready to PM someone with a login to try it. I think a mismatch will kick out an error somewhere along the login process with gamespy, gamesas, etc, but it would be totally reasonable for it to work, too, as long as the key isn't already in use at the time. That way, OP gets to keep his account, like you suggested in the first place.

If no-one posts that they've tried it, I'll look into creating a junk account and testing it out with a buddy. Damn curiosity!

Ignoring the SP profile problems, are Crysis2 accounts portable between different valid installations?

Yeah. The loadouts (and other stuff) are actually stored in the currently active singleplayer profile, of all places. You can run multiple MP accounts no prob but need to keep a different SP profile for each to keep them from glitching each other.
