I built my own PC Barebone: £1316 + Essential Software £284

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:47 pm

My setup: I built the the PC tower from scratch. Barebones cost: £1316 + OS and other essential software: £284, Total cost: 1600 excluding monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 650D
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K @ 3.20GHz
Motherboad: Asus Rampage IV Extreme Intel X79 Chipset
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 590 Classified Hydro Copper
RAM: 8GB Corsair Dominator GT @ 1800mhz
Primary Hard Drive (Win7 HP 64bit and MS softwares): 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS Solid State Drive
Secondary Hard drive (Work files, Movies, Games): 600GB Gaming Western Digital VelociRaptor
Optical drive: LG 12X BD reader
PSU: Corsair 1050 Watts HX1050W
Monitor: Dell U2711
Keyboard: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech MX Revolution

Crysis 2 graphic settings:
Resolution: 2560 x 1440
Fullscreen: Yes
V-sync: No
System Spec: Ultra
Motion Blur: Off
DX11: Enabled
High Res Texture: Yes
FPS: 60 - 90
FOV: 80
Mouse sensitivity (Custom): "cl_sensitivity 19.35".

At 2560 x 1440 the cloaked enemies have more definition and are easier to see. And 3D is not good for your health. It is scientifically proven it releases large quantities of radiation @ you.

Holy Sandy Bridge-E Batman!
Very nice indeed, i've always been a fan of the 590, how's the cpu doin'?
Also i got a passive 3D monitor, you're sayin' i'm being cooked while viewing 3D content?
Umm ..yeah looks like a nice monitor you have there too, i'm waiting for my 25" asus 1080 to arrive, the 23" 3D i got is just a little too small for me(i'm about 1 metre away from monitor).
But yeah, very nice! :D

here's my paltry 80s rig :
Gigabyte z68xp ud3P
i5 2500k @4.5
ASUS gtx580 SLI
8gb ripjaw 1866
xfx 850w psu
Win7 64-bit
(ssd for OS, hdd for games).

The CPU is extremely fast and only at the fraction of the price of the previous top specification Sandy Bridge. I.e The Intel Core i7 990X @ 3.47GHz. Also it runs very cool too. Never reaching above 58 C @ max load.
I guess as technology evolves all chips would be faster, cheaper and more economic.

As for 3D technology I was never a fan of it, in fact I am sick of it. Take note especially the moment your 3D screen switches on, that is when the max load of radiation emits. Make sure you are not facing your 3D screen when it switches on.

Nice... Who does the sound on that board? Is it the c-media chip?

EDIT: Rather, what company's drivers & support software does it use.. Creative or ASUS?

Right on, screw 3D feature whether it's for movies or gaming, people don't want that.
With that much money, you should've went with a 240GB SSD instead.
Nice build though.

Asus P8P67 Deluxe
EVGA SC GTX 580 SLI
G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 8GB 8-8-8-24

Noctua NH-D14
OCZ Vertex 3 240GB
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
Asus Xonar Essence ST
LG WH23LS30 Blu-ray
NZXT Sentry LX

Creative X-Fi with Realtek driver does the on-board sound.

240GB is a lot more expensive than 120GB. And I did not need that much.

The Batman dx11 patch is unofficially out, (it let's you set detail to EXTREME)>>
'Reflections are enhanced as are the lighting to particle effects, and the shadows...'
patch 1.1 here>>
http://download.xbox.com/content/575...3_10000183.cab
'as this has not passed full QA you will not be able to sign into GFWL , nor will you be able to save any games.'

Nice setup, personally i would have gone for cheaper case, cpu, no ssd but with 2x GTX580 SLI for more 3D power. :)

At 2560 x 1440 the cloaked enemies don't make any difference to me.
wat do u mean? cos they dont make any difference to me if i play 1920x1080 or 1280x720.. i dont think u can c the cloaked enemies even if u run at quad-hd res..

I needed the good CPU & SSD for my field of work. I only game when all that is done. And two liquid cooled GTX 580's cost more and installing them in this motherboard is very tricky.

When @ 2560 x 1440 the definition is so fine I can make out the cloaked enemies very easily. I also use Visor Enhance for better feedback when ADS or scoping.

Lol man. then youd better buy Z68 motherboard, and core i5-2500k and overclock it to 4.5-4.9ghz with gtx590, since you have only one card - you won't need s2011/s1366.

About which feedback you write when using visor enhance in ADR?

I didn't want to OC too much risk the life span of my system. Also my colleague bought the Intel i7-3930K for me at a very good price from California.
The most expensive part was the GTX 590.

A fellow Crysis 2 gamer asked me about the clarity of cloaked enemies when in different resolutions.
In my case when I set the resolution to 2560 x 1440 with the Ultra graphic settings the definition of cloaked enemies become clearer. Plus for the far away cloaked enemies I use Visor Enhance for my Stealth Modules for highlighting capability of enemies when the user Aims Down Sights or through the scopes. (Visor enhance only works when you ADS or Scope.)

hmm i wonder if its the "Ultra" setting or the high resolution, maybe you can take screenshot of cloaked enemies at different res and details if you have time.

cos i've actually heard opposite from another person, he apparently runs DX9, low res, custom low details(lower than "High") and he seem to spot people very easily. :)

Asking something like which graphic settings your system can run Crysis 2 is very tricky for me to answer.
So it would be better for you to know whether you meet the minimum requirements of the game.
You can check at http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ to see if your system can at least run it.

You're so lucky to have a good PC.

If I ever buy a new PC, I'm gonna set this bastard on fire (with having a great laugh and pleasure watching it burn!):
- cpu Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.0GHz,
- graphics Gainward nV 9600GT 512MB,
- ram 4GB Transcend ddr2 800MHz,
- mB Gigabyte EP31-DS3L,
- hdd 500GB WD5000AAKS-00D2B0,
- idk about PSU, I think some cheap 500W,
- display 20'' Samsung T200,
- keyboard Logitech UltraX Premium,
- some crappy Sweex MI500 5$ mouse xD
- crappy headphones for 10$ (not worth 2$)
- crappy microphone for... wait for it... 2$

My feelings towards my old pc are opposite to that of yours.
No matter how sh1t or slow it was, fate brought the two of us together and it accompanied me through the tough times and it did what it could to complete most tasks I needed it to complete.
Take care my old pc, you did good man.
