Does food actually have any use? Whats the point of it?

Mostly RP because HP to weight ratio svcks on most food, but I admit the regeneration Stews have saved my nordic [censored] more than once.

You think Skyrim might be GOTY some day without the mammoth cheese?

Hmmm. Any ideas? I'm one of the people that really wanted a hardcoe/survival mode in Skyrim, but I doubt that would be a DLC. :(

I think it is coming. That is why food is in the game. I don't think they will do a water system (since Skyrim is incredibly full of seemingly clean water sources) but possible a little flavor of Fallout's hardcoe mode with food requirements and sleep requirements.

They hint at all this with the sheer amount of food, beds, and companions. You need more companions if they die easier. The gold economy also hints towards this; you will need a lot more money in hardcoe mode since you'll be paying to sleep at inns, buying horses (that will die more often) etc.

RPing, and it would be really stupid to have a world without food.

What do you want food to do? A ham sandwich makes you 50% resistant to fire? Scrambled eggs makes you walk on water for 30 seconds?

I don't understand what you think food should do.

Resist fire and cold foods sure. Now before everyone throws a hissy fit, the ingredients would have fire/frost salts in it. So its in the realm of possability it'd do something for fire and cold :P

Mainly I'd like to see them as cheap and long lasting fortify potions. Have a hearty meal and gain 20hp for 6 hours kind of thing.

Seeing as a Giant's toe is able to increase my carrying abilities I don't see why food can't help me resist fire/cold :)

They use buckets, dude. I've walked into plenty of rooms that just have a bucket in it.

I liked the suggestions a few made about food being a stamina booster/replacement.

A couple recipes are good, but it seems like, for now, the main function of food is backdrop and role-playing.

An eating/drinking animation would be good.

I am also hoping for an animation package/mod once the Construction Kit is available.

Of course, a little apple pie is good, now and then...with a mead chaser.

Wow , like the simple solution escapes everyone. They already have a well rested buff why not just make a ~5 hour well fed (cooked food) buff like +5% to all skill gains, or +25 stamina, etc. 5 hours cause 3 meals a day 16 hour waking days 16/3 ~ 5 hours.

Food is awesome for when you're out of potions in a fight...I've eaten like 70 apples in 12 seconds.

"Does food actually have a use? What's the point of it?"

I probably should've explained my comment better. I meant a solid use for food being handed to the player on a platter. If you were given a solid use, or reason for being there, for everything, then everything would be too linear.

I can picture it. A guy running from a dragon while speed-eating 70 apples. Hilarious.

vegetable soup may even be the most overpowered item in the game

This. 12 minutes of +1 stamina per second = unlimited power attacks for 12 minutes. Seriously.

pretty useless overall, ingredients and basic cookings are heavy to carry and restore pathetic low amounts of stamina or health.
there is ONE good cooking fondue that actually gives a very powerfull caster buff (+100 mag. and extra regen) and 2 or three for warriors/thiefs that stack for health and stamina regen.

So store them at home and mae the meals before going on a quest, perhaps

I can't believe they focused on food, recipes and food-making animations instead of, for instance, enabling you to play a musical instrument and become a bard, or become a potato/leek/gourd farmer, or becoming a woodcutter, or becoming a miner ...

Sigh. Bethesda, this is one of my biggest minor annoyances with the game.
