Brotherhood of Steel, Hardin and Peace with the NCR

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:21 am

I don't know whether this will ever be acknowledged but simply I want to be able to resolve the conflict between the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel peacefully with Hardin in charge. I've gone through all of New Vegas, completed every side quest and played through both DLC's and not once have I ever regretted a decision more then putting that stubborn Paladin in charge of the Brotherhood. Its far too late for me to reverse my actions now and I cannot simply enter a command and revert a quest state as PC users can, I just want to be able to do this in the game some way. I know that this is a game that is supposed to make you think about your decisions and that they are not supposed to be easy but it aggravates me that there is no way of convincing him or installing another elder. I'd happily assassinate Hardin in order to install another elder or find a mesmatron that would force him to make peace or find a piece of technology that would perhaps change the Brotherhoods desires or perhaps install common interests between the two groups. I know that this would require more then a click of fingers to code this into the game but it is something I worry about all the while playing New Vegas simply thinking, "Im going to have to end those smiling faces eventually."

I can only imagine that the best way to implement this would be alongside old world blues or the lonesome road similarly to the interaction of Elijahs holotape from dead money and veronica.
I would simply be ecstatic if this could arise somehow on New Vegas.

Also how did any of you feel about this quest, did you make a decision you regretted, am I asking for far too much or have I failed from the beginning by posting in the wrong place (I just figured this wasn't a glitch and wanted to voice my opinion about it).

Your asking for something that doesn't make sense.

I just want to find a way to make a truce between NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel after Harkin has become Elder

First its Hardin, not Harkin. Second you have to leave Macnamara in charge, you can't make peace with Hardin.

I don't think Obsidian is going to change the game just to meet your requests as a player. There are tons of decisions in New Vegas, many of which effect the outcome of the story, and some options simply could not be reconciled with lore. Hardin hates the NCR, and he's nowhere near as progressive as McNamara, it just wouldn't make any sense for him to put aside his traditional values and entitlement to side with a faction he dislikes.

Hardin is a hard-liner and then some, and since NPCs in NV actually behave according to their 'role' there is no way he would ever even consider allying with the NCR. As Ranger here says, it would make no sense for the alliance option to be active with Hardin in charge; since that is the consequence of the decision to replace the more progressive McNamara, I hope they leave it as-is so that the choice continues to actually mean something.

I figured as much I guess I've just got to replay a great game all the way through again, oh well I guess there are worse things in life right?
Can anyone tell me how to shut down the topic?
