A bit of confusion : Fallout: New Vegas

Ok, so it says at the beginging of the game that if you beat it on hardcoe you get something special at the end. This I have done and there is no idication of being able to play the game after it has been beaten, and what is the special item? When you beat it it gives you like over 4k exp but you dont get to see anything after the credits roll. Just a tad confused. Can anyone help?

Something along the lines of " The game ends after this battle! You're committed to (insert faction name) are you sure you want to begin?"

The game was never intended to continue past the endgame ~the last battle, and summary of player action... This is how the entire Fallout series of games is intended to be ~Even FO3 ended... until they caved and broke the ending with DLC.

Post-ending play with all the endings accounted for would be awesome.

But its basically impossible and not really worth trying less something get screwed up.
