Be sure to take smithing, so that you can make and improve superior weapons and armor.

2h and Heavy Armour are pretty brutal, man.

You really don't need 1h and shield. Blocking with a 2hander works well enough if you invest in the first Block perk and upgrade up the Bash branch. Just don't get any perks related to a shield.

A warhammer will deliver more damage, but an orc should never leave home without his battle axe. Malacath wills it!

That should work fine as is. Like said, improve Smithing and you'll have no problem at all.

With a 2h, your enemies will be dead before you need to block.

Yeah, I would think a true "berserker" would wear leather/hide/fur armor...but yeah, it's crap.

Light armor would be more "authentic", but heavy armor would look better considering the light armor is made for elves and sneaky-types.

A 2-handed axe or hammer would be cool, same with dual wielding. Just stay away from shields. No self-respecting berserker even knows how to use one.

dual wield or two handed?:(

two handed are cooled, and per hit they nail, which sometimes is what you need

I’m going to try this build next
Race: Orc
Weapons: Dual axes
Armor: Fur

I plan on only using alteration magic for the armor rating spells, smiting, marksman and alchemy

I figure stacking stamina to health in the following ration 3:1 should work well. I might be squishy in the early levels but with weapon and skill upgrades along with improved armor buffs it should play well without feeling overpowered.

Dual Wield give no blocking at all and no shield AR, so go with Heavy Armor. Power attacks are key as they often kill things outright.

Two Handed you can block and I go with Light Armor.

I have played a dual wielding rogue though in light armor. It is doable (as is most things). You just have to kill things fast due to the low AR.

Oh lawl, berzerkers with heavy armor, magic and archery... guys seriously?

Be a man - go berzerker light armor or naked top dual wield axes! You got shouts that bad ass enough to avoid magic and archery? Which glorified berzerker would prefer to shoot his enemy from distance instead of going face to face with him?

Go true berzerker, do not care for armor rating - you can always upgrade it with smithing to give you cap.

Two-handed, for the sideways power attack perk alone. I've taken out entire rooms full of enemies with a single swing.

I decided i like the idea of 2hed more, but armour always confuses me, on my battlemage i have great armour, but still get owned. Im sure that if using a 2h, the chances of getting swarmed are high because its so slow, so surely heavy armour is better to choose over light?

Actually, it kind of depends on the difficulty you'll play at.

I've beaten the MQ and gotten to lvl 50 on Adept difficulty (middle ground) with a 2hand wielder wearing Studded Armor, Nord Steel Gauntlets, Cuffed Steel Boots, and Ancient Nord Helmet. Blacksmithing helps keep them competitive.

They're not optimal, but who cares about optimal. This game isn't built for min-maxing its built for style.

So if you want to look like a light-armored berserker go for that light armor, get blacksmithing and just improve it. Go for style! :D

THW and HA?
LoL, you picked an exact opposite!

For berserker, you should pick OHW and go dual wield (go for maxes and/or axes, but not swords - they are not very berserk-like), and pick Light Armor (something like http://images.uesp.net/b/bc/SK-item-Light-Fur-2.jpg or http://images.uesp.net/4/4a/SK-item-Light-Hide.jpg).
For race, pick ether Orc, Nord or Redguard.
You can also go for Smith so you can upgrade your stuff to the max.

Berserkers go with dual wield or even just a single one handed weapon, crude ones then like axes and maces, with light armor like furs and leathers. Often bare chested and without a helmet.

Edit: The very first depictions of berserks from old Icelandic writings have them wearing wolf skins with a shield and a spear though D&D adapted this into making them dual wielding warriors instead. However many old tales also have berserks without spears (often with shields though, wooden ones) and here is one poem from Haraldskv?ei.

I'll ask of the berserks, you tasters of blood,
Those intrepid heroes, how are they treated,
Those who wade out into battle?
Wolf-skinned they are called. In battle
They bear bloody shields.
Red with blood are their spears when they come to fight.
They form a closed group.
The prince in his wisdom puts trust in such men
Who hack through enemy shields.

The one distinct feature that never changes though is that berserks wear light rags or pelts, never anything heavy or fancy made out of chainmail or plate.

When I think beserker...

2x 1 handers.
Orc would be the best race
Medium armor...which I guess could be a low Heavy (dwarf) or a high Light (glass).
Potions that increase weapon damage while draining health or stam.

One-Hand - Dual-Wield, Axe Specialization
Alteration - Stoneflesh, Magicka Absorb, Magicka Damage Reduction
Restoration - Avoid Death
Alchemy - Better Potions, Resistance to Poison
Smithing - Daedric Weapons (or Orcish if you prefer an Orc Berserker)
Enchanting - Extra Effect, Better Enchants, Soul Siphon

You do not wear armor but magic and conditioning alter your damage reduction. You can cheat death while in a frenzy. You rely on your offensive skill almost entirely and consumables. You make use of the Frenzy Dragon Shout and are an Orc.

Great armor for Berserker (only in appearance) is Tsun's armor.

You can't get this ingame without the console.

Type

Help "Tsun's Armor" 4

then

player.additem 00000000 1

Body armor in the above picks. The head is the Ancient Nord Helmet, the hands and feet are Nord Steel.
