I had a personal moment today

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 5:18 pm

So I was playing Skyrim, adventuring through the wilderness like always, when another damn wolf attacked, so I took care of it. Once done, I turned around and stopped for a second. Turns out it was a pretty nice view. I always like to stop and take in the sights from time to time, as I'm sure many players do. I go a bit further and come across a pair of mammoths. Nothing I hadn't seen before, but figured I'd watch them for a bit.

And then it all hit me. How beautiful it was. The golden color of the forest leaves, the bubbling hot springs in front of me, the two mammoths walking along the shore, the majestic mountains in the distance, the rays of the sun penetrating the falling leaves, all as the orchestra began to swell in the background. It just hit me. This world, the world that Bethesda has created, is truly a masterpiece. When you just stop to look around and take things in, it becomes so apparent at just how achingly beautiful everything is. I stood there for what seems like forever, just watching the world around me. It really affected me in a way I wasn't expecting.

I know there are problems with the game, and I want them fixed just as much as everyone else. Yes, the shortcomings and bugs do spoil things from time to time. But I feel like I take for granted sometimes the true mastery that is in Skyrim. To be able to immerse me in such an awe-inspiring world such as this is, well, remarkable. Thank you Bethesda, for this truly wonderful game, I will be enjoying it for years to come :)

I sometimes have that. If it's particularly good, I'll make a permanent save of it.

I bet the guards used to think that before they took arrows to their knees.

Now they just sit about taking sweetrolls off people.

The sight of a Dragon flying around the peak of a distant mountain, it's roar eachoing accross the tundra, it truely is a wonderous game.

I have those  I try to screenshot when possible, though I forget a lot.
The first time I stood at Azura's shrine was one of those moments, followed by a stunning view of Markarth from Vlindrel Hall, and one particular night in Solitude.

I felt like that the first time I saw a giant camp. It was by this lake, but I swear the water was glowing and there were butterflies flitting about and it looked really lovely. Very soft and beautiful in a world which as far as I'd seen then had been quite harsh and brutal looking.

The serene atmosphere was broken and it went back to harsh brutality when I skipped over to say hi though. :P

Also, damn you for making me want to play more when I can't until Saturday! *shakes fist*

The magic skyrim tree quest is one of the best looking parts if the game.

My screenshot file keeps getting bigger and bigger. I go for landscapes, dramatic moments and cinematic dragon attacks.

Since I went to Winterhold College almost straight away, I've been playing in snow storms and blizzards and de-saturated colours for nearly 25hrs. None of my quests have taken me out of that area until now. I recently travelled thru an area just as the TC described and I was suddenly overwhelmed by the beauty of the more temperate parts of Skyrim compared to the icy northern areas. Good stuff

I know what you mean. The view is outstanding! From times to times I hate myself for traveling only at the north. All I see is snow, and snow only. But even when I travel through snow all day long I see wonderful places. Sometimes I just stand and stare at these places for a couple of minutes.
Bethesda, you created a wonderful world indeed :)

I have that sometimes, but I wished the overall lightning of the game would be more ... bright and gold. I love the light in dawn and dusk, but during the day there's a rather cold blue tone, which fits to the setting but it just doesn't look as pretty.

I'm going to have to edit down my screenshot directory too. I'm just so moved by the beauty I see. I love this game.

if it was by whiterun, the water WAS glowing. After thorough investigation.... nothing about the purple bubbling water of amazement anywhere in the camp, and no relevant quests I can find aside from a bounty.

The serene atmosphere was broken and it went back to harsh brutality when I skipped over to say hi though. :P

I completely agree, I often simply stop to just look around at the beautiful landscape. There was an element of this on Oblivion, but Skyrim is just something else.

Some of the vistas don't render properly on the 360. Looking forward to seeing beauty hacks in the future on pc. With how buffed oblivion looked, I can only anticipate. What we have now is so impressive.

My moment was the first time I saw the aurora borealis in the night sky as I traveled to Whiterun the fist time. Freaking beautiful.

I totally agree OP. The world itself makes this the best game I have ever played. I purposefully don't quick travel to most of my destinations so I can take in the sights as I go. The first time I saw fish jumping up a small waterfall it sent shivers up my spine, I couldn't believe the extent of the detail. The attention to the small details is what makes it so good. The night sky is awesome as well. The addition of the Northern Lights was very well done. I keep hoping to see a shooting star, but I suppose that was one small detail left out. I just deleted my first character and am playing through again and really taking it all in this time. I got the new Batman with my video cards, but I still haven't even started it up yet, lol. I think with a few bug fixes and a couple mods this will be hands down the best game ever made (if it isn't already).
