Console Players and Expansion Packs

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:21 pm

I'm curious. God help me if this is on the forums somewhere or internet otherwise and my 20 minute search should have found it.

/equip "Robes of Fire Resistance"
/use "Internet Troll Elixir"

If expansions were produced for Skyrim or any other game for that matter that were played on a console, would that just be DLC, or would there be an option to purchase a physical disk.

/em takes cover.

Depends. Some things get physical disks, others get DLC. It all depends on how big the update is and how much it costs. If they still make a decent profit, they may put it on a disc.

DLC is downloadable content its online downloads expansion packs are on a disc. It also matters on size.

The DLC for Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas were only downloadable so I'm almost 100% sure that Skyrim's will be as well. The GOTY edition will probably have all the DLC on it though, if you feel like waiting a while.

I'm sure there would eventually be one you can buy in stores, but not right away.

Bethesda released physical discs for the Fallout 3 DLC on consoles, but I believe that the New Vegas DLCs were all download only. So.. basically, what I'm saying is that no one knows.

Expansion packs are generally a lot larger and more involved than DLC. Shivering Isles is a great example. Hours of new quests, new NPC models, voice acting, etc.

DLC tends to be more like ... a castle in a previously unused patch of forest. Horse Armor.

I'm mostly curious because I am new to console games and also TEH. My first thought was, "What disc would you put in... would you install on to the HDD". Sometimes I miss PC gaming.

I thank you all for the responses. So quick!

I think there was a disk version of Shivering Isles on the PS3 and 360 for a short period of time. It also was made for the PC. I doubt this sort of thing would happen now since DLC is becoming the norm if the company isn't Capcom. I could be wrong, but it's less expensive to create DLC for downloading verses making a retail disk with packaging.

Reasonably sure that for consoles, all DLC will be downloadable. For PC, you may well need an expansion disc, a la Shivering Isles. But I'm not sure on that.

I bought the disc version of Shivering Isles for my PS3 but i don't think the new Expansion pack, if any are made, will be on disc.

The DLC and expansion pack were released on disc as well for Oblivion.
