Don't use quick saves, too addicting and chancy. This was corruption due to a mod, I had 5338 save games on that character, tried a couple in different increments (i.e. save 400, save 5000, save 1) all corrupt. So I said screw it, trashed them all.
This is one of the many reasons I invested in an external hard drive. If my saves get corrupted or my entire hard drive crashes, I'll still have a good copy of them.
Understand your frustration :brokencomputer:, hate seeing that much time lost, nearly lost my 300hr character some time back, only thing that saved me was multiple saves (new), never quick save, too unreliable.
To avoid corrupt saves, I always do a new save, and before the save number reaches 1000 I delete all old saves except the latest ten. It seems to work.
Im sorry if you ever do try again though use http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36730 it will help with your save game corruption and automatically save for you after however long you want its essential for me

I'll try that next time, never had a problem with corrupt saves with FO3.
Only problem is I'm scared to play again with these mods because if it doesn't improve the game performance, I am going to uninstall and corrupt all my saves again.
I never use auto save, and I always keep 2-3 copies. I know what it's like for a corruption. I once had ALL of my saves corrupted on F3, I think I was on the verge of suicide. However, turned out it was a Hard Drive failure, not a Bethesda flop, so I spared them my wrath.
If you had only one character, it may have been a sign that you need to move on. Cuz really, you should start over with a new character with different choices and builds.
I have made tons of characters, I have played the good, the evil, legion, ncr, yes man, loner, you name it. Just this particular character I very much enjoyed.
I always try and make new save games about every hour of gameplay or so to go along with using f5 for quicksaves.
If you only do the quicksaves then you can screw yourself pretty bad, it happened to me several times in Fallout 3.
I save like every 10 min. I don't trust this game at all. Although the patch seems to have fixed a LOT of the issues this game had. I ran through Dead Money a second time and had ZERO freezes or crashes. :celebration:
Only had one save become corrupted. And that was with Oblivion, and the back-ups still worked. Still, it wouldn't be that big of a deal for me, my playtroughs take 100 hours tops, and i usually get bored and rush to the end so i can start again :hehe:
I'm sorry...you didn't lose it though. You played and enjoyed playing it. My first FNV became bugged late in the game and I couldn't finish it because I wouldn't assassinate a certain character. I did finish the next one and I'm now playing game #8. It's been more than 500 hours but I've enjoyed every one of the games because they all had something a little different going on. I don't always do the end battle and my favorite part is actually building the character up from Doc Mitchell's house. We're pretty weak at that point so it's a challenge.
I make lots and lots of saves...we have to with these open world games. They're huge and have bugs...we deal with it by skillful saving I think. I hope you're already thinking about your next build.

Yeah, it was a good run, I slept on the idea and I'm ready to start up again. I'm a little stumped on a build at the moment. I am thinking of letting my character progress through different stages that depend on his choices and consequences that he makes. Maybe doing something that will scar his life and cause him to become a drifter/loner but have something bring him back. I don't know, but I'm eager to get back in it.
Yup, I've got my games backed up on USB. Gotta update my drive soon.
