Pickpocketing Followers - Help!

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:30 pm

OK, so heres the situation. I want Lydia to have a set of default clothing for when she is home.

See, heres how it works. Lydia is not technically marriable for me. So she is currently my Fiance. (SHUSH YOUR FACES!)

When things get REALLY bad, I'm talking like... 40+ enemies while doing the quests that involve taking over keeps and such... I send her home. I love having her as an adventuring partner but I don't like to needlessly put her in danger when I am doing things with the Empire.

When I come home, she is always in her steel plate gear. Not a huge deal, but I wish she'd at least TRY to make her self comfortable at home...

OK, so that being said, heres my question. If I get my pickpocket skill up to 100 can I "Steal" the steel plate gear (the default gear she normally wears without anything I give her) from her inventory and replace it with "CLOTHES" that she'll default to when I take away her Ebony Plate armor?

Moreover, can I steal it from her WHILE she is wearing armor that I give her WITHOUT having to reach 100 pickpocket?

Thanks for any insight.

EDIT: I should clarify that I am on the PS3 so I cannot use console commands to alter what she wears. This is strictly limited to the game's base mechanics.

You need the 100 perk in Pickpocketing for this I believe.

But just to confirm. This IS possible? I'd hate to gain 100 pickpocket just to have it be wasted. I demand she wear pretty noblewoman's clothes when she is home!

I've given followers Legendary Daedric armor, and whenever they toss it on(Tell them to follow me and Zone) Then I zone back into my home, dismiss them, and pickpocket them, Their basic armor shows up in their inventory, Just tested this for you

I'm not trying to make her wear something better than her defaul base armor. She'll always do that. I'm trying to get her to wear just normal CLOTHES. So if I completely take the "default" armor she has on, like... make her naked... And give her the clothes... She'll STILL have the default armor respawn into her inventory and re-equip it as soon as I leave her?

Is that what you are saying?

naw, I only gave her the daedric armor, when she put it on, I told her to stop following me, while she was still wearing the daedric, When I opened the Pickpocket menu from her, I could take her default gear (My Pickpocket skill is only 17, so she would catch me) but I speculate if you could lift her default gear from her inventory, you could take back the Daedric armor and give her a dress

I gave her a noble hat kind of thing and she wore it? She had a helmet in her inventory too. I don't know maybe she just wanted to feel like a noble.

OK! So update on my progress! I started grinding out pickpocketing last night, got it up to 50 and have been able to swipe her default gloves, boots, shield, sword and bow...

HOWEVER!

The default CHEST ARMOR (steel armor?) is still showing up as a 0% chance to steal.

Anyone know what the threshold is for stealing a steel briastplate?

I should also note that I have spent two points into pickpocket's first perk. ((giving me a total of %40 bonus, I think...))

Anyone been able to do this? I'm hoping that it isnt something that is just "locked" on her and I'm wasting my perks for this... :(

You would think it would be hard to pickpocket a steel briastplate that someone is wearing without them noticing

Thats just it, she isnt wearing it. I gave her an ebony briastplate. She equips that, and then the steel briastplate appears in her inventory as an unequipped item. Thats how I already stole the gauntlets and boots from her. I want her to wear pretty outfits when she is home and I need to make sure she CAN actually have the briastplate stolen. My guess is taht my skill just isnt high enough because of the weight and value of the briastplate.

So I've read that SOME characters have gear that simply CANNOT (under any circumstances) be thefted away. An example is the red turban/hood thingy that the Redgaurd wears in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. ((which is a shame, because I kinda wanted to make a redguard just to wear that hat))

Is her chestplate like that?

Well Mr. Koga, you just made my day. Thank you so much for that info! WOOO! Being at 50 pickpocket, I cannot wait to get those last 5 sweet points and put her into some pretties!

Upon reflection, I think this is a little weird and maybe I should spend more time with my real girlfriend.

...

Maybe I can get her to carry my burdens. :3
