What is a DLC? Someone care to explain?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:55 am

I am new to Bethesda games and forums. Anyone care explaining what DLC is to a newbie? It sounds like its going to be good whatever it is

And yea I tried to google it but just got irrelevant links.

Downloadable content. Game add-ons. Things like extra quests/items.

Downloadable Content

Its pretty much any content for a game that you pay for and download that is not part of the origional game.

DLCs are professionally developed game mods created by the developer of the game. Typically, you have to pay for them. As opposed to community made mods, which are free.

The biggest difference is DLC's are available to all platforms that game is played on, where community made mods are only available to the PC platform.

As a side note, this thread will not be for discussing community made mods on the console platforms. We already have way too many threads on that topic. Let's keep this discussion to Officially Released DLC.

Well later on if you have the game for PC you can check for mods after the Creation Kit comes out, but before then you just have to wait and perhaps subscribe to Bethesda. Wait for updates. Check on here sometimes. Eventually you'll be able to see them in stores also (like Oblivion's GOTY; Shivering Isles, and Knights Of The Nine), and you'll eventually be able to see them on Xbox Live also.

The Steam game news will most likely mention them, as will these forums. Official place would probably be the official Bethesda Skyrim page.

...The first thing that pops up in google when you enter DLC, is the wiki for downloadable content. I find it hard to believe any gamer doesn't know what DLC is. Even a PC exclusive player.

What platform are you on?

When you buy and download them they are automatically added to your game. If your on xbox you can find all of the ones you have and have not purchased on the Marketplace. For PC, I believe it's the same, but on Steam.

But, none are out yet and won't be for awhile. Oh, and the term DLC isn't exclusive to Bethesda games, its for any game, pretty common knowledge for a gamer.

Perhaps my google is screwed then, got links to game news and such, I figured it was something downloadable as I had seen a few pages where you could download so and so, but I wanted to make sure

Thanks

Googled DLC to see if your story was even remotely valid.

End result?

Horse Armour.

That is all.

That was a single mistake, and they even acknowledged that it was a bad move.

I think the only other game that makes large, reasonably priced DLC other than Bethesda, is Rockstar.

The horse armor is also the first (if not, one of the first) DLC any one ever made. Sure other companies try to milk it, but beth is always awesome with it (horse armor aside).
