Now many 5-star reviews in Amazon Japan

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:41 am

History has a way of repeating itself. As you know, Japanese is eager to adopt Western culture and modernize. Today Dec.8 (GMT+9) is to be a historical day of many Japanese who can get a full-localized version of Skyrim and it means that we can be in the right ballpark with Western persons though we have one month lag time behind you.

Some users have already posted their user reviews of PS3 version with 5-star to Amazon Japan and they speak of the Skyrim in the highest terms in the earlier entries. Skyrim's Japanese version was basically as same as Skyrim's US version launched on Nov.11. This reminds me deja-vu. So, many of them will suffer from many unexpected and serious bugs from tomorrow.

I would like to carefully observe how the situation develops in the future.

I don't understand why someone would review a game on the release date. What is the freaking point? People have nothing better to do? Gee, maybe they could go and actually, y'know, play the game before deciding it's perfect. Same thing happened on metacritic with all the BS 10/10s on Nov.11.

It'll be just like it was on Amazon in US.... it'll start out with all good reviews, and slowly people will go back and change it once their games break until the reviews continue to drop and the number of 1 stars begins to outnumber everything else.

Maybe, many users' reviewers would post their pure first impression in first scene, before character creation, then they will know that truth and roses have thorns about them later.

Who knows...they may actually think the game is great....5 stars doesn't always mean perfect thing ever. That's usually not how ratings work. They aren't obvious like that.

Who cares who likes the game.

I like it. I play it. Shouldn't that be enough?

The few Japanese friends I have say Japan is eager to maintain its insularity and continue with its culture as is, so ... huh?

I don't know... Something tells me in Japan it won't be so much a problem with all the Japanese geniuses running around there, doing I don't know what but something really nifty and cool to make their games run perfectly smoothly without any patches downloaded... Japanese people are awesome.... *-*

Japan is eager to modernize? Was this posted in 1911 or 2011? Japan is not a 3rd world country. Tokyo is very modern.

Just only an hour ago, a courier service delivered me Skyrim Jap version for PS3 and now I can start playing it. So, localized voices are awesome and I can feel Skyrim's world perfectly and my Skyrim is working without any serious lag so far as I had already changed my fat PS3's hdd with ssd and installed the skyrim to it and I aim to be able to play skyrim up to 10mb save file and 100hrs then the PS3 becomes a machine dedicated to skyrim and if any unexpected bugs cause to die the PS3, my damage would be minimizes because my almost softs are for xBox and xBox is far more expensive than PS3 in Japan, so playing PS3 is mandatory to avoid the risk of spoilage.

Look at ff14 to see how Japan want to modernize. My friend works for square soft and eve he was ashamed of it. They literally played wow while making the game but failed to include anything remotely modern in it. He says it was due to their culture and unwillingness to adopt new ideas.

This is what I was thinking as well. There's a reason so many sites are moving to "like/dislike" rating systems, because for some reason most people don't bother with anything other than 5 or 1.

Still, it's nice to know that Skyrim is doing better than most other western RPGs with our friends in Japan.

A lot of people in this thread fail to understand OP's point. This is exactly how it was on Amazon for US Skyrim PS3. At first it had 5 stars. After a week, when people started getting the lag and crashes, everyone rushed in and change their ratings to 1 or 2 stars. Now it is only 3 stars and dropping fast. I guarantee you this negatively affects sales. A lot of people look at Amazon reviews not only when trying to decide whether to buy it there but in retail stores as well.

Thanks! Your pointing out is correct and it's just what i wanna tell here. Bethesda's funs understand well about what Bethesda had been releasing in TES series and Fallout series etc. And, we know that we must scrutinize Bethesda's games with utmost care and gather enough imformation about their bugs and glitchs to enjoy playing them before we buy them. In Japan, Bethesda's games are called Bethesda quality and it means that pre-research is mandatory.

But, this time Skyrim differs from the other games Bethesda released. Because, one of major game magazine in Japan, Fami-tsu, evaluated Skyrim as full score on Nov. 29 (not Nov. 11), furthermore, today Amazon brims over with 5-srar comments.

I'm afraid that many Japanese gamers will disappoint and refuse many good western games because of just one misleading of limited press and retailer of bias evaluations and reports.
