You can probably mark the quest as active in your quest log and have an arrow pointing at the location. There are too many areas on your map to reliably track things without the quest arrow.
Ok, hoping i'm just being stupid, but several times now an NPC has said, "here, let me mark that on your map".
Yet when opening my map, i dont see the location highlighted or even have a clue of what was updated by the NPC.
I mean, there are just too many location icons on my map to just instantly notice a new one.
Surely I must be missing something obvious.
It means now you can view the location mentioned on your map, if you had yet to discover it. However, you are the one who has to find it among the rest of the locations marked on your map.
If they're marking it as a quest location, go into your journal and make sure that quest is the "active" one. That should move the highlighter to the new location.

No, the npc is revealing a new map location by adding an icon. It may help narrow things down to know that the new location is undiscovered, and will have a black icon versus a white one, but other than that, you have to scan around and check the icon labels...

That's exactly what i've been doing since it doesn't always add a quest and cannot be located easily as mentioned in the above posts.
Unfortunately, i have many locations icons that haven't been discovered yet on my map so its a bit tough to narrow it down sometimes. Was hoping there was an easier way.
just highlight the quest in your log, and then use the "show on map" tool
I know that, as I mentioned it does not always trigger a new quest to be highlighted. Sometimes they just say they'll mark a location on the map, but there really is no quest associated with it.
