Best in the elder scrolls series?

I think, in terms of gameplay it sure is Skyrim for me. Morrowind though still has the best atmosphere of them all ("all" refers to Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, since I didn't play Daggerfall and Arena). So I can't put one over the other. On the one hand I enjoy playing Skyrim more for its combat, great environment (there is so much happening everywhere!) and graphics (there, I said it), on the other hand Morrowind had strange architecture, more complex possibilities (spellmaking) a great cultural background with the Dunmer and the ability to kill some gods. The overall atmosphere is just unmatched, even today and with worse graphics.

Draw there for me. I am extremely excited for the Morrowind Overhaul 2.0. Can't wait to get my hands on that. Until then, Skyrim is my No. 1 for now.

Daggerfall.

High replayability, massive options, a wide variety of enemies, wereboars, large cities, significant housing options (read - a HUGE number of possible houses), the ability to own your own ship, horse-drawn carts to haul your loot, a huge map to wander through...and the ghost of King Lysandus. VENGEANCE!

It's a great game, but far from the best in the series, that would be Morrowind any day ;)

I might actually like Skyrim a bit more than Morrowind in some aspects.

Morrowind has the edge for being thrown into a strange world and having to figure it out on your own but the quests for Skyrim..Wow they put alot of thought and work into these.Great job guys!

For now, mod Oblivion > Skyrim >>> Oblivion

Maybe it would be mod Skyrim > mod Oblivion > Skyrim >>> Oblivion later.

The only thing that makes Skyrim a PC game is the cover and the poor key bindings just enough to play with a keyboard, after all Bethesda cannot force us to play with a gamepad....yet.

Vanilla Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim

Modded Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim

Oblivion vanilla was terrible yet Skyrim somehow manages to be more shallow.

But it doesnt matter how shallow and lacking the gameplay is today, all you need to focus on is improving the visuals...right ?

Basically, Morrowind was a true RPG in that anything you did relied on your character's abilities, not you as the player. That's what "role play" is (unless you are role playing yourself, but you would not level up to 100 strength, intelligence, etc either in such a case).

After Morrowind, Beth decided to go the "action" game route rather than stick with actual role playing games. Frankly, they listened to a vocal minority, but anyway... that's what they did. Their games are still great games, but not great role playing games. Role play requires imagination - ask any actor, for example.

Skyrim has Morrowind's darker atmosphere, but continues down the action path rather than role playing. So... as a fantasy action game with minimal role playing elements, it is excellent. As a role playing game... not so much so.
