Number of armor enchants..

Post » Tue Oct 27, 2009 5:09 am

I tried searching 5 times and it wouldn't bring up anything about this so sorry if its been said but I couldn't find it.

Anyways, just picked up oblivion and I'm completely addicted. I love sneaky stuff so I started a thief type class with light armor and joined the Dark Brotherhood. They gave me the awesome light armor with all the enchants I love so I figured awesome. Then the black hand comes along and gives me robes with even better enchants.

So here's my dilema and question. I rarely get hit in combat so light armor is worthless now that I have the black hand robes. My question is, how many enchants can I put on a piece of armor? Could I get all the enchants from my black hand onto some light armor, or should I just restart and not use light armor as a major and put something more useful on while I just use black hand robes

Welcome to the forum! Glad you're having a great time with the game!!

Sorry, you can only self-enchant one enchantment on a non-weapon. Weapons can take multiple self-enchants but not other gear.

Wearing the robes instead of light armor is a great idea. No need to restart unless you really want to. Having an "idle" major skill can actually be a good thing. There's no reason to go higher than lvl 30 in this game since the best drops/rewards are found at that level. After that you and your enemies both get more health, but typically not more power, so fights just get longer.

Likewise: Welcome aboard. Have a fishy stick ---> http://cdn3.knowyourmeme.com/i/000/050/177/small/DarkFishyStick.jpg?1274211981

Keep in mind that you have only 5 slots for clothing, and thus for clothing enchantments. (i.e. - hands, upper body, lower body, feet, and head)
But robes take up at LEAST the upper body and lower body, while some robes also block out the hands AND the feet (Red Dawn Robes).
Personally, while some robes look cool, you will only get your ultimate amount of enchantments with pants and shirt outfits.

So is it possible to get enchants that have fortify illusion, sneak and marksman? And is there any sigil stones with that?

Sure if your character has learned and is able to cast a fortify skill spell. You can make that enchantment yourself, provided you have Frost Craig Spire or finished all the Mages Guild Recommendations to gain access to enchanting alters. As for sigil stones, the only ones I've ever scene are fortify blunt or blade.

As mentioned, you can only put one enchantment on apparel. Of course if you are on PC, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a mod that allows you to put more than one enchantment on apparel. Otherwise the only multi-enchanted apparel you get in Oblivion is through drops or rewards.

As mentioned, you can have only one custom enchantment on a piece of gear.
You have 6+3 slots for enchantments:
Head, upper body, lower body, feet, hands, shield(doesn't show up and won't affect spell efficiency if you have a 2-hand weapon or a bow equipped); 2 rings and an amulet.
If you are on the PC you can also install a mod which gives you http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4539, they give you an extra slot by using the tail slot.
Also, if you are on the PC you can either mod your own clothing, http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14975, have multiple enchantments or get new enchanted items.
For a stealthy char you can enchant your gear with some chameleon, then a couple of shield enchantments and maybe nighteye.
