a deathmatch - all vs all gametype

Post » Tue Oct 27, 2009 2:34 am

there could be a server option that would allow: all vs all with no objectives on a map.

i imagine that on container city , it would be awsome. people wouldnt be bound by an objective and could play their own style when they feel like it . agresive: going after others all over the map, defensive: camping with turrets or other safe guards, will give oportunity for lots of parkouring as well.

container city is so well built for an: all vs all match, it will be nice if its implemented.

everything sounded good till you just stated the idea of camping with turrets. People bought this game to get away from people camping and just going for kills. But a deathmatch would be kinda cool, im more towards ctf or another objective type mode. But if they did do a deathmatch they would have to change the points system since a kill only gives you i think 30xp.

u got to excpect that too in an all vs all, some will pick sniping , others will want to sneak up on others , others will go for medium range contact , etc

would u say this could be delivered by the devs ? i am not sure , i have my doubts

It wouldn't be a bad idea, as long as it remained sidegame-ish.

Devs could modify a few of the maps for deathmatch.

Shouldn't really be a full-on gamemode, just more like something to blow off steam with for 10 minutes.

Yeah... but... TDM invalidates quite a few abilites, the operative's EMP grenade is really only usable on turrets now, if all objectives are gone. And what about the medics? Is their revive ability completely useless? If you opt to have to finish off the enemy, Gears of War style, this could lead to some drawn out matches with not much ground getting taken. If people are constantly getting revived, then kills won't rack up very easily.

On the other hand, if you opt to take out incapacitation completely in favor of a more CoD-similar approach, then you completely invalidate the cortex bomb, one of the shining stars of being an operative, also no incapacitated people would mean no Comms hack either. Regardless how you do it, I don't see a balanced TDM gametype.

Personally I don't want to see one, it was why I was so excited to leave CoD. Before you say I wouldn't have to play it, just think back to the CoD days and how every game mode would devolve into TDM gameplay at some point in the game, even if it was objective. (i.e. how many Search and Destroy games are won by killing the enemy team?).

No. It would decidedly not be "awesome."

There's already a great many shooters that cater to that sort of game play. BRINK being a team based objective oriented shooter does not need a game mode like this, period.

I'm think everyone can agree we'd like to see more game modes on existing maps, i'm with you on that .......but deathmatch is the antithesis of what this game was designed to do , SD have all these classes designed to help each other out as a team and objectives that are designed around promoting teamwork and tactics ,so throwing in a game mode that would completely go against that and suddenly the game loses its purpose and functionality.
