Is there any way to place things down nicely? Like set a vace right side up on a table? Put bread back on a plate?
Stand a broom against a wall?? etc.. etc...

This will probably be a mod at some point. I really, really liked the system in Morrowind, decorating your house and such. Especially when modded so you could turn objects around and such. I spent hours on that... :/

In skyrim, I kinda just throw everything into the closest sack in the whiterun house.

Nope, only by holding the action key (E for pc, A for xbox).

The item that needs to be moved has to be an item that can be picked up.

Here: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2475

Edit: That's the only way to alleviate the decorating process as far as I know.

Heheh, this is what I do.

At least there are weapon racks, mannequins and bookshelves.

I tried the press E and move then E to release thing, kinda works.. if you need to rotate something you simply turn it using the edge of a table or desk etc..
Rather barbaric, but effective.. can be a pain in the ______ thank God for the F5 quick save option :)

Does anyone know if the patch fixed the issue of all your crap flying around when you open the door?

On PS3, you can hold down the X button on your controller for a few seconds. Instead of picking an item up, you can move it. I don't think this was in the manual.

The real problem is you get your statue of Dibela oriented exactly like you want it, hard to do, but you just need to practice a bit, the hardest are the bugs in jars IMO, but then you leave the room and come back and the item has flown in some random direction.

I have found a way to fix this. Set the item. Save the game. Load that save. Now the item is locked in place.

Bethesda games have very wierd physics. Its almost like you are setting something on a picture of a moving car, without realizing the car is actually travelling at 60 mph. If you leave the room, the car takes off and the item, which has no momentum stays in place and flies away. By saving and loading it somehow syncs those items.

BTW, this method works with some items but not all. Still very confused by it. I think Daedra are involved.

I could swear that you could accurately rotate and move items that you were holding around in Oblivion. I wonder why Bethesda removed this feature?

It's even worse than in Oblivion. At least then you could pick it up by one end and rotate it that way. This time it's impossible. I miss the old days of Morrowind when it was so simple to display your stuff all over tables and shelves! I collected candles.....

It's been mentioned that this is still a problem, even with 1.3.

Not that I know of, but this 'trick' seems to work okay (so far, at least). It's a 6 step process

Enter home and just drop items from inventory
Exit home
re-enter home
Exit home
Re-Enter home and decorate with the "grab" key
exit home

(items should now be stuck, but followers - dogs! - can still upset them)
