The one, simple thing which would improve the game enormousl

Either you're lying or your game is broken. On master with no crafting in your low 20's the only character in this game getting 1-shotted is you. Seriously, even skeevers take 2-3 swings with a 1-handed sword. Master is only too easy for stealth characters later on, summoners and people who exploit crafting.

Combat is the majority of your gameplay aside from running places. Combat should be satisfying for as many players as possible. You shouldn't have to grit your teeth and force your way through - there's a reason that Mass Effect is relatively unloved in the general populace compared to Mass Effect 2.

Umm... other way around, actually. Mass Effect was loved, while Mass Effect 2 was not because of the gutting of the entire role playing aspect.

@OP:

Traps on Master most certainly do a lot of damage. In fact, my pure mage has been one shot by some traps.

Here's a hint: you are playing a very specific type of character and build. You cannot state that the game is too easy, even on Master. You can state that YOU find it too easy with this specific character and build, but that's all, and it's still completely subjective. Many of us do not want "challenge" for enjoyment, and do not find "challenge" (particularly combat challenge) to be fun. Beth's games are about exploration, not combat. Otherwise, you wouldn't need an open world and Beth could simply offer an arena for fighting (which was where TES began as a concept, actually).

I'm not sure what traps you're talking about since I've opened a door and a wooden log rammed into me. Needless to say I died immediately.

They should have had a 'hardcoe' mode like in Fall Out:NV. Difficulty shouldn't always pertain to combat. I mean would the true Dovakiin waste 25 arrows on a lion, or would he/she place one in the heart and end it's little furry life? We are talking RPG's, realism is what we strive for, not 'ive just slit a mans throat but yet he lives on!!!'

i dunno, i'm going to pinch a loaf........

That's why it's so easy even on Master. You're ignoring a large part of the game and just focusing on combat by the sound of it.

While not broken like Oblivions levelling system the game world (and especially dungeons) seems to level up with you. If you're only levelling combat skills, it will never get any harder. To make it harder level some skills that while improving your character, do not make you stronger combat-wise. Pickpocketing and Lockpicking are good ones. Pickpocketing especially is easy to get to 100 and this'll make the game quite a bit harder as you should gain 5-10 levels from that without getting any "stronger".

I too love a challenge and it took me quite a bit of work to get the game hard enough for my liking. I maxed Pickpocket and have very high Sneak, Smithing and Lockpicking - none of which help me in a straight up fight. I'm also working on Enchanting, Alchemy and Two Handed even though i'm an Archer. Anything to make the game harder is fine by me. I do wish there was at least another difficulty level or two that would really challenge a minimalist character. But the game seems to be balanced around levelling more than 2-3 skills.

Well, it is not like you need to train lockpicking to pick locks and you arent exactly kept short on money either so there isnt really much point in doing that or pickpocketing.
I mean if these skills+speechcraft would somehow be implemented in this game in a way that they add to your gaming experience that would be different,
but their only effect is that you get more money and since you dont really need more money...

I agree with the OP, Skyrim is the easiest game I played in the last years, also the most unbalanced one.

Probably you're just unlucky with spawns or something, tbh the difficulty varies found the game stupidly easy around 20-25 aswell.
Sometimes you run into much stronger opponents sometimes much weaker. Still run into enemies that suddently one or two shot me at lvl47 on master.
And can't say i've had the same experience with traps either, they do loads of damage even when i'm at the armor cap.
Problem is the potions, the fact that you can freeze time and get your hp up you're invincible aslong as you have enough of them, i think they'd work better if they healed over time instead of instant.

Or maby it's just buggy which wouldn't suprise me, beacuse i love hard games like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry3, Darksouls and Contra but i really wouldn't call this game too easy overal anyway, as soon as i've felt that this game is just too easy i've encountered a challange around the next corner.
It sure as hell isn't as hard as those games and beside the potion thing, the game has struck a nice balance between challanges and feeling a powergrowth, in my experience anyway.

Its not too easy. You just haven't fought anything hard maybe. I have a heavy armor/melee barbarian, I use minimal magic, at level 24 and just last night, on EXPERT, it took me about 10 tries to beat a (no spoilers so I can't say) random grotto I happened into. This with a hired merc. Dual wielding exquisite dwarven war axes as well.

There are definitely some enemies I one shot, but some are very difficult.
