Riverwood... all the scorched people on the streets make it feel like a bbq-party!

Whiterun Easy

The city has the best lay out, its basically a giant L with everything you want on 1 single road

No winding road, no 7 levels of stairs

Your house is perfectly located right near the fast travel point

7 different merchants to start the game.

this.
and whiterun just feels like a peaceful place,no dark secrets

Add a poll for favourite town (i.e. Karthwasten, Rorikstead), minor city (i.e. Falkreath, Morthal), major city (i.e. Solitude, Windhelm) and hold (i.e. Hjaalmarch, The Rift) repectively, please.

My favourite settlement would have to be Riverwood - being the first settlement you set foot in, it actually comes to feel like
home to me. Here, the people are friendly and live a simple and peaceful life - something that I admire myself.

My favourite minor city would have to be Dawnstar. I love the icy habour town feel that Dawnstar
leaves you with. You can almost feel the cold, fresh winds coming off of the coast of the Sea of Ghosts.
I live close to the water myself, and love getting up early in the dead of winter and walk along
the coast and see the sun rise - it's such a powerful experience!

As for my favourite major city - that's a tricky one. Mostly because they are so vastly different, and all have
very unique features that all speaks to me. If it came down to the architecture and climate of the city, it would
definitely have to be Windhelm, but it's also so gloomy because it houses the traitorous Stormcloaks and
all the most xenophobic Nords - Brunwulf Free-Winter is nice though. If it came down to the city's citizens,
it would almost certainly be Whiterun - everyone here is so nice, in spiteof the feud between the Battle-Borns
and Gray-Manes - Nazeem is also a piece of work. But I guess the major city I like the most would have to
be Solitude based on the general feel of the city; it's massive, safe and friendly town - although the towers
and walls are a tinsy bit gloomy.

I really like the hold of Winterhold, due to its extreme conditions and pristine glacial beauty - although
the actual town is a bit.. Erh... Underwhelming. I wish for a DLC that allows the player to help rebuild
the town and restore the it to its former glory. I also really love horkers, so that's another reason for me
to love this hold. I would also like to buy a house and live in this hold of Skyrim - but I guess it will have
to wait until the Creation Kit comes out, so I can make one myself..

Depends on my character. Markarth for my Dwarf-obsessed Bosmer, Windhelm for the Dunmer Stormcloak, and Solitude for the Altmer Assasain. Everyone takes whiterun because it's a starter home, you know. Plus there's smithing stuff right next door.

I love Solitude, but Whiterun is where I live, and everything's close by. Markarth is nicely put together with the falls and all, but it's not "homey" to me because it's all stone. No wood, no trees...very cold. Although I am pleased to see the alchemist keeps a tree in a pot.

Haven't been to Riften yet, so I don't know if that's nice.

Of the other 4 big cities I like Whiterun the least. Windhelm is great for it's Nordic stronghold feel, Markarth is impressive because of it's layout and position against the mountains and Waterfalls. Solitude is pretty. Whiterun is just meh in looks, but the location of the stores is good.

The smaller 4 are ok, nog great, with Winterhold being very underwhelming ( college is great though) and maybe Falkreath the best because it's kinda creepy with the pine woods.

love the layout of Whiterun, easy to conduct business all around. + it's a cheery place. The Whiterun house isn't as good as i like in Markarth ...

Solitude. Has the best home money can buy. No other homes are as huge as the home you own in Solitude. Plus there is an actual safe in your bedroom to put all your sweet rolls in so no one can steal them!

I like Windhelm, I think it looks beautiful at night when it's snowing. The town just embodies everything Skyrim is imo.

Whiterun feels like it has a real economy, several towns and farms everywhere. The rift is the same. I really like that about those areas. I have to wonder sometimes, why do places like Winterhold and Hjaalmarch need their own independent government? They haven't so much as a single farm or mill outside their main "city". Hell, Winterhold has 5 buildings in it's entire political area. I don't even think it has any sort of industry at all besides teaching mages to perform ward spells. They should just be taken by Haafingar and Eastmarch. Perhaps the only reason is that they just don't want them.

I'm gonna have to go with Winterhold.

For one, the College of Winterhold is there, so it's something of a base of operations.

But most importantly, I am just totally in love with the surrounding area. The huge mountain cliffs overlooking the Sea of Ghosts, the never ending blizzards... it all just feels so... EPIC.

I currently own a home in Whiterun, but I plan on getting a home in Winterhold as well, and settling down there after I finish my journeys. I was very happy when
Spoiler
I was able to get Winterhold converted over to Imperial control during the main quest

How can you get a home in Winterhold, there are none available. Unless you're reffering to becoming the arch mage and living in the college.

Oh, I didn't realize there was no available home in Winterhold.

I just became kind of sad.

I haven't been to all yet (like Dawnstar, Falkreath and Windhelm), but I immediately liked Riften. Why? Because of the Thieves Guild, there's a barker trying to sell snake oil, it sits on water and everyone seems either a little dishonest or a little off-kilter. Just my kind of place. My current stone is the Thief, so I fit right in. I think if parties were held in all the towns I've visited so far the most fun would be in Riften. :foodndrink:

Whiterun is a nice, vanilla town and I have a house there, so it's my current base of operations. Markarth is just plain dead (though there's lots of deathbell and swamp fungal pod). Solitude is ok, except the people there can be rude. I got a kick out of Taarie telling me, "If you're heading to the Blue Palace, you may want to rethink that outfit." Snob. LOL

Favorite Overall City: Solitude - The city as a whole is beautiful and seems big.
Favorite House: Hjerim - The Windhelm house is so unique. It has a secret lair in it, an armory to put at least a dozen and a half weapons into, and the inside is lovely.
Favorite Hold: The Rift - The wild and varied landscape is a beautiful sight to behold; I like Riften as well, aside from the Black-Briars having control. I wish that after a certain point, you could kill off everybody in that family aside from Ingun.
Favorite Architecture: Markarth - Without a doubt, the strange factor when entering this city is mind boggling the first time, and the extra levels make it the biggest city in Skyrim.

Honestly, every city has somethign great to offer, but my top 3 are Solitude, Windhelm, and Riften

Being Archmage would kind of be like having a home in Winterhold.

There should be a quest to rebuild the part of the city that fell into the sea.
