You need to optimize your perks appropriately in order to remain competitive.

lol just kidding this is a one player game so that kind of mindset is pointless and sad.

as soon as you are fully invested into sneak, and have the good combat perks invest into alteration and with some points in Restoration you can heal through anything, and be armor/magic resist cap, not to mention restore stamina while healing yourself lol.
