Jaree-Ra randomly trying to kill me

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 4:10 am

So I'm in Solitude and for no reason Jaree-Ra comes running down the road and starts fighting me. I've never met this NPC before and have no idea what the deal is. I did accidentally do 1 crime in Solitude, where I stole a Strange Gem from the Jarl's room (it didn't say Steal!) right after buying my house. And then the guards came and I tried to not fight so I'd pull out my spells then sheath. Didn't do anything till the 3rd try and suddenly the guards just go to neutral and walk away like nothing happened.

I'm wondering if there's a background glitch where I have a bounty but the guards are neutral? And so this random Jaree-Ra fellow is playing the hero? But the problem is he can't die so basically I'm screwed or something.

I've tried to disable/enable him, I've used recycleactor, and I've used resetai in console. Not sure what else to try.

Help?

He's not with the gaurd, that much i can promise. ;) He has a quest but it sounds like you haven't started it to me. Did you tell him he smelled funny or something?

Shoot him on the knee.

On a serious note, I don't think the jewel is involved in it, considering it's a quest item and your character technically doesn't steal it (according to the game, at least). Maybe you could try loading a file before taking it, and see if that changes anything. Alternatively, you could leave Solitude for some days; that -usually- resets the NPC hate.

You could try waiting or leaving the region for a couple days. I have no idea why he would attack you unless you stole something from him, assaulted him......or did you clear out some bandits around Solitude recently?

The last thing I did was that wolfskull cavern thing, where they're summoning someone. It made me friendly with the Jarl, then I did her little task and she said I could buy a house. So I did. Then I "stole" the gem, had that little aggro situation with the guards. Then I left and went to my cobwebby house. Looks like it'll be nice. Then I left, walked down the road, and he came at me. The only other thing I did in Solitude, really, was watch the execution and I did try to grab the guy's head and I heard the crowd say something, but I dropped it right quick lol. I doubt it could be that but who knows.

Otherwise I didn't really do anything. Sadly the last save I have is an hour earlier, before doing those few quests.

None of those things should trigger the Argonian's hatred. Try leaving the city for some days, maybe that will calm him down. It's most likely a glitch, if you ask me.

So I read from a wiki that he will be hostile if you do anything involving the execution - in my case, playing with the dead guy's head.

However, I did some other stuff and he's reset himself, so no worries. Go the quest from him and all that :)

Assault a guard and pay the bounty, that will resolve any aggression issues anywhere.

It happened to me too. I just ended up making him and the other one that will soon attack you klillable and killed them. In the process you will complete some sort of quest but it isn't really too important apparently.
