How do I get the NPC's to fight over dropped loot?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:15 pm

Hi, I'm a PC

And no matter how much loot I drop nobody does anything about it. :( I feel like I'm missing something, though I could very well be doing it wrong.

The scenario I heard was with bandits, not NPCs in general. And a valuable gemstone, not just any loot.

I dropped some clothes on the floor in The Bee and Barb, and immediately everybody was up on their feet, daggers in hand. Some poor Dunmer ended up dead. It was awesome. (I reloaded because I felt guilty though.)

edit: They were fine clothes. Don't know how much that matters. There were also probably 9 NPCs in total hanging out when I dropped the clothes.

I read somewhere it happens in places where people are generally poor such as riften or bandits.

I've tried making it happen by dropping decent weaponry but couldn't make it happen. I had heard one person's story that they dropped a decent weapon near a guard who said something like "if you aren't going to use it, can I have it?"

No dice.

I'll have to try it in Riften with jewels or something. You'd think though, that throwing a Dwarven claymore on the ground near some people with Iron equipment would start a fight.

I've never had them fight over it. For me some farmer came up and asked if I minded if he took some of the stuff I dropped and it gave me the option to tell him yes or no, haha.

well, glad to know that I may be doing it wrong then. Though I thought someone by now would clean up the mountain of leather hats and iron daggers laying around the Warmaiden by now :P just keeps growin' and growin'...

After testing, I can confirm this did in fact work for me. I dropped a flawless ruby on the ground when the bar in Riften was pretty full and two guys fought over it, with one killing the other.

He didn't actually pick up the jewel afterwards though....he just killed his friend who was wearing the same outfit and then sat back down.

I dropped a crap-ton of baskets and cast iron pots as an experiment (like literally over 100) at the Bee and Barb and Mjoll fought with Vulwulf Snow-Shod over it, and won... every single time I did it. =D

I've only seen it happen once, when I placed some Blackbriar Mead in my house. The result was Jenassa killing Lydia, they must have been very thirsty to fight to the death over it.

You can drop any expensive loot, just aslong as it's worth fighting over, once I droped a few Flawless Daimonds and I almost had the whole of Riften rioting.

They did this with me.

Over a single Iron Arrow. Mjoll won the fight, picked it up, and gave it back to me.

I dropped that for a reason, Mjoll!

I'm glad my followers don't fight over things in my house. I dropped a TON of enchanted gear on my bed while I was organizing. But perhaps it doesn't happen in houses, anyway?

No one fights over my apples. Just, "Hey, don't throw your garbage around!" I gave that beggar in the Riften market about 20 apples. Of course, she didn't take them. Dammit, woman I'm trying to help.

My character being too loaded, I once dropped a weapon on a table in Dragonsrecah. A guard immediatly said to me not to leave weapons around like that, that it could be dangerous.

I also tried a shout in an empty street in Whiterun; a guard came immediately to me asking me not to do it again because people were getting nervous.

Quite cool, I think.

I've had them return it and ask if they can keep it but not fight.

The depth of the game is so suprising at times.

This.

And when you follow a salmon in the river, and see it jumping up a small waterfall.

OR when you follow the headless horseman for 5 minutes non-stop riding, and actually end up somewhere you've never visited.

The game lives.

Those are called scripts.

You can drop a tomato on the ground in Riften and Mjoll and old man Snow-Shod will fight over it. I used the console to turn his aggression down, and when Mjoll reached for her battleaxe, he ran out of the Bee and Barb so fast he tore the paint off the wall. At least he lived...

I've never seen any other NPCs fight over trash though.
