Ok I ' killed the preacher in whiterun (the one yabbaering on about Talos), the guard catches me and one of my options for response is
"i'm the Jarl's thane, let me go. the guard says sorry and something about even the jarls power only go so far . then he walks off. I walk over to the dead preacher and he's got my arrow sticking out of his head.

So can i be thane to more than one jarl, or is it limited to just one and how many people can I kill and get away wiith it.

Didn't you want to keep him for the secret quest where you get that awesome sword of Talos with the "holy" power that makes enemies explode?

You can be the thane in every major hold. Not sure how often they let you get away with that, though. I've never tried it to see. Make a save, and then just start killing people and see how far they let you go.

I think it works with bounty, as long as it's below a certain number it will be selectable.

i had 1 today where a guard was like "hey, i know you." i talked him out a small bounty.

Well my Character is wanted by the Thalmor, they keep sending groups of three assassins(not actual assassins)
but 2 guys and a mage, i picked up 2 bounty letters from 2 groups i killed, I have even had some actual bounty hunter come chasing after me.
I used the shout and the bears and mammoth kill him.

I also had a bear get attacked by a gaint and it summersulted into the air.

You don't even have to do that much. Once he says that you can just ignore him and end the conversation there.

Well, as far as I knwo teh "I'm the Thane" option only work for one crime, depending on the bounty I guess. It won't work when I go on a killing spree.

But you can be a Thane in all teh 9 holds. But It's really only useful in the major ones, no need for crime in the tiny ones.

You should have used your kill for the arsehole who suggest your not good enough for the cloud district. I sneak killed him anyway.

I like that guy. That's some of the best voice acting in the game.
