When will PC version be stable?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:20 am

While I don't have many mods running yet, my game runs as well as any game I have. There're a few broken quests, but I've had maybe 3-4 ctd's after about 30 hours of play.

My game crashes far more now, after the patches, than the very first version did. I wish I knew.

Only time I've ever had a crash happen was in one spot and it happened consistently. CTD both times.

I reloaded, waited a couple hours in-game, and tried again.

Hasn't crashed since.

Actually they do. Bethesda does not design the mods and therefore does not have any jurisdiction over them. Therefore crashes can and will be caused by the mods since Bethesda, obviously, didn't know what the mods would be.

Search "reference bug" and you can see how major bugs can also be introduced by "Official" stuff.

Mods will only cause more CTD if, 1.you downloaded a poorly coded mod with bugs(last I check you can crash with stock game and there are also lots of bugs in the stock game) 2.you installed too many mods(the game engine can't utilize more than 2G of ram) 3.two mods are conflicting each other in a serious manner(can also happen with multiple DLCs, but less often because DLCs are made by one entity, while mods are made by different people)

For 1, game and mods both receive patches, just download the latest version of the mod like you do with the game. If you can tolerate all those bugs in the original game, I don't see why you can't tolerate them in mods. Remember, you paid 60 bucks for the game, while all the mods came at free.
For 2, not much we players can do with the engine limitations(it's a 2006 engine), try the player made 4G exe.
For 3, learn what mods can be installed together and what cannot. Just like you won't install Nvidia Forceware and ATI catalyst at the same time right?

I haven't changed any settings since release and I crash about every 10 minutes. The only thing that has changed is the patches. These crashes occurred when 1.2 was released. Before that I had 30 hours with only 2 crashes.

Instability is one of those things; my game is perfectly stable now, and always has been except for the entrances to two dungeons (a random cave in the mountains somewhere and a Dwemer ruin) where entering would result in insta-CTD. Since the patches these appear to be fixed.

The game doesn't necessarily run the same on all PS3s/360s, and every one of them respectively have identical specs, it's impossible to account for every single hardware combination, which is why they make patches.

If your modding Skyrim, and complaining of crashes and purple textures etc.. GTFO out. lol

I honestly haven't had any performance problems playing the game, it is the in game bugs, incomplete quest not being able to "complete", mammoth dropping out of the sky, and NPC's teleporting like endermen from Minecraft. Still happens, it is mainly obvious if your standing to the left of Jarl before you have your first fight with a Dragon outside of WhiteRun.

I guess they still can't seem to fix the PS3 problems, and the stability most or "some" PCers are still having. It is overall not a "rare instance" as they would put.

The game is remarkably solid with the LAA mod. I haven't crashed once in weeks since I started using it. For those without the mod, I would assume that when they add the LAA flag next week as they have said, then it will be a lot more stable for those who couldn't be bothered with getting the mod before now.

My game crashes very rarely with the LAA (4GB) mod. And with it I haven't seen a single purple texture either. I can't wait for the official LAA patch.

No they don't.

Also, the mods makes the game look more like it's supposed to for PC.

Mine has only crashed 2-3 times, but 2 of those were when i spawned 30-40 storm cloaks and 10+ dragons.

I've had two game freezes in over 92 hours of play. What are these crashes folks keep talking about? Are they playing with only 2 megs of RAM on their system or have loads of applications svcking up memory or something?

Eh? You've just said that your game crashes once every 41 hours 46 hours. How is that stable? Have Bethseda really managed to lower our expectations that much?

I don't have any mods installed. I've got 8gb of the best memory money can buy. I run my OS lean and mean and pristine. I've had these crashes since release. They have been getting progressively worse over the last few patches.

Maybe I'm just coincidentally finally getting to the content that has the most problems.

:celebration:
The number of crashes to desktop has increased significantly over the last few patches.

I am now stuck with a companion quest where I follow Aela to Morvarth's Lair and the game crashes the second I zone into the cave. I can't dismiss her and/or cancel the quest so I can ignore it and go about my game with my normal companion. This is now the 3rd character I've run into a dead in on. I'm pretty much losing interest fast since the game is so linear at the beginning. I can't stomach rolling another toon with no guarantee that I will run into the same problems. I shouldn't have to save and quick save every 5 minutes.

Being a customer of this series since the first title I'm not very impressed with this one. But you have my money already so I doubt your concerned.

Sorry to hear of your issues. My PC has been stable since day 1 of release, /yay me

Get the mod that enables 4GB of memory for skyrim, it solves most CTDs.

I averaged about 1 CTD for every 2 hours of gameplay. After installing the http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013 mod I haven't crashed at all. Not even once. Plus you can then install all those incredible hi-res texture mods without issue. The Skyrim I play now looks sooooooo much better than it did on November 11th. So long muddy, pixelated 512x512 textures, hello 2048x2048 (or higher) textures!

No problem a minor crashes happened only twice since 11.11.11.

I hope Bethesda will sort the shadow or shade issue in the game soon.

My System:
Phenom X4 955 @ 3.2 Ghz
8 GB DDR 3 1333Mhz
1GB AMD HD 5770 (with 11.11b performance drivers) which dramatically improves game performance. Playing in Ultra details.
