This is the mage purist ive come to love in skyrim. The emphasis on non direct dmg dealing magic trees like illusion and conjuration in skyrim has made the mage playing a helluva lot of fun. I haven't tried the non DD approach yet, but it seems to me that watching NPCs duke it out would get old pretty fast? I will try it eventually, but for now I mainly use illusion for lighting and sound tricks, and I only use conjuration to disarm Runes.

The spell Magelight is excellent for disarming runes and for playing with dead bodies You also don't have to sit idly by whilst the npcs duke it out either you can intervene with some DD but it makes almost ever fight epic in a sense that there is so much going on...although I may just like obliterating my opponents with an army too.
