The Strategy Guide: your thoughts welcomed

Being that I'm still torn whether to buy it or not, I'm interested in opinions from those that have it, in regards of:
- how thorough it is;
- the level of force-spoiler descriptions;
- organization;
- how well does it complement gameplay;
- (of course) any other input you'd feel as appropriate.

The reviews of Amazon.com are beyond ridiculous, all along the lines of OMG Amazing or svcks. There's actually a guy that gave it 1 star because the package came torn. I'm amazed that Amazon allows such "reviews", so I came to you guys to read your impressions.

All the other topics in this Forum about this subject also goes along the OMG versus svcks trend, so please refrain from pointless hate or fanboyism if you can.

Much appreciated.

My son and I enjoy this massive tome (650+ pages) and are glad we got it, but there are some weaknesses:

Positives: Comprehensive in terms of quests, items, NPC's etc.
It contains an index (sorely missed in the Fallout 3 book)
Color pictures of many of the important NPC's
The large foldout map is quite useful

Negatives: Errors and omissions. For example, the alchemy ingredient list is mostly correct but not perfect. Some of the narratives for quests are too terse. For example, I'm stuck on one quest (Blood from the Stone) where I can't seem to trigger the quest to advance to the next location. The book just says to go investigate X (I'm leaving the spoiler details out). Well I'm there, but its not obvious what you are supposed to do. I suspect there is a script error, but the book isn't helpful.

On balance I would buy it again. While I use the wiki and other online sources as needed, the experience of browsing through a big book provides its own satisfaction.

I highly recommend it. It is pretty good at warning you of spoilers although you can still accidentally fall into them depending on how you peruse the book/index/TOC. I refer to it for smithing often to determine how many ingots of this I need and whatnot. Solid bestiary tables, although it doesn't show what creature fills what soul gem like the OB guide did.

The map is very helpful as it shows the paths that weave through the mountains so you can get to this or that a bit more efficiently. or, if like me, figure out what you want to investigate on the way to where you are supposed to go.

Very organized. Only one error that had me handcuffed for a short time. A puzzle handle wasn't where it said it was and I was doing no better myself finding the cursed thing. 20 minutes I'll never get back.

:wink_smile:
