If anyone wants to try and justify Barbas's accent, I'll happily beat them with a stick.

Yeah it's a cool and goofy voice that's appropriate for the quest.

Now, you gonna come at me with your stick?

Why did Bethesda have to kill the immersion by using American voice actors? One of the biggest immersion killers with RPG is the fact that such games use modern American voice actors and accents and it sounds terrible. NO offence against the American accent but it just doesn't fit such RPG style games and the accent is too new.

Out of all of the voice actors in the world they pick American's and the kids in this game sound like today's America. The Witcher 2 and Gothic 2 are hardly perfect either but Elder Scrolls is terrible in this respect. It's just amazing how such game developers think American accents are normal in such a game and I've even heard accents that sound straight from New York. Can you not find trained American voice actors who can make their accent not so harsh? Clearly not.

What's wrong with an american accent huh?

I bet some of you guys would like an African accent in a snowy town in Skyrim as well, LOL.

well to suggest that it would be impossible would be to say that people dont migrate, which is kind of a slow coach POV, IMO

Anyone watch the Conan reboot? Why oh why was thre a guy with an african accent hanging out with a northerner? Dont they understand that its impossible for one to travel to a location and not automatically start using an accent fitting with the indigenous population? (now THATS sarcasm)

its understandable that people can move to different locaions.
really if you want to look at it, all peoples originated from africa, so your logic would sugggest we should all have african accents.

Be warned, it's a mighty stick. :P

But yeah, I hate his voice. The accent itself isn't that bad, but it just doesn't fit the character that it's behind at all. It's not the voice of reason, which is what Barbas is supposed to be.

American voiceacting is in most intances bad for the immersion. American english does not sound authentic, like other english accents. It's hard to explain.

See: this entire tread as a counter argument.

One of the things I love the most about the Elder Scrolls is the fact that they take influence from so many cultures and sort of make up their own cultures.

Skyrim might be very Scandinavian, maybe too much sometimes, but I can still see a lot of other cultural influences in there.

Its black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly.
