Grab system, gotta be an easier way >_<

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:36 pm

I find the grab system to be annoying, unlike how it was in Oblivion. In Oblivion, I could grab the tip of the blade and rotate the sword so it didn't hang off the table in my house. Placing items on shelves were also much easier (except for books, which is better in this game with the usable bookshelves); now if I want to place something, like my collection of dragon claws, on a shelf then I have to grab it and hope it gets placed in the right spot. Otherwise, I have to grab it, take if off the shelf, slam it into 50 different things in order to turn it in the direction I want it to face, and then hope that it doesn't turn by itself or get knocked by the shelf as I put it up. If it does get knocked by the shelf, I gotta slam it into anotther 50 things because the shelf flipped it in the opposite direction and upside down >_<

A minor inconvenience, but still a bit annoying since I like displaying things and decorating my house.

Yeah, its a real step back. Coupled with the house bug. Did the newest patch fix the 'dropped items in houses go everywhere when the cell is reloaded' bug?

I don't know, I haven't checked that. I'll going to have a save before I began decorating and one after just in case, though. I don't know if it applies to the racks and bookshelves because those are fine.

EDIT: I just reloaded an autosave that was half way through the decorating process and it launched the claws everywhere. I'm only on patch 1.2; on the 360 and (like most, I'm assuming) haven't gotten 1.3

The thing I liked in oblivion was it "grabbed" the object at the spot where you actually picked it up. In skyrim, there seems to be only one grabbing spot no matter where you grab it.

grabbing should be changed, it should be more like halo's forge mode.

Yeah, physics to grabbed items are so atrocious that I don't even want to mess with it. There is a placement mod out though.

You would think that with how much they touted the inventory object observation they would have at least made in world object observation similar... but nope, it was streamlined further to "pick up/put down." Sad to say it was easier in Oblivion.

I really wish it had a system like Amnesia. That would end every placement woe ever. Aside from the game deciding to fling your objects all over bug.
